I thought it would be fun to get our inputs in early for the best "formula" movie ideas that our most likely to garner Oscar nominations for 2007. Here is mine.
NC-17 remake of The Sound of Music, focusing on the lesbian relationship between Maria and Leisl. Additionally, the Republican Party will take the place of the NAZIs, as the family battles to get 12 year old Louisa a late term abortion. New musical scores will be hip-hop. This really has Oscar written all over it.
TOPICS: TV/Movies; Weird Stuff
KEYWORDS: academby; academyawards; bbbbbbbbbbbbbb; hollywood; huktonfonixwerkz; lernt2spelt; nationofdumbies; sambleman; vainbtypost; vanibtypost

See tagline.
Maria and Leisl should also claim they can never find work, that the price of everything is too high, that they're always warned about severe weather too late... and so on.

Maria and Leisl would be played by Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johnasson.

Rap isn't music. Even Chuck D confessed that it is spoken word over a looped beat (generally cobbled from someone else's work). So there is no "sound of music" in that film.
And movie titles these days are generally 1 or 2 words that don't tell you much about the movie. Crash (actually at least the second movie with that title, the first being adapted from a book of the same name), Rent, Capote, Philadelphia...
How about "Struggle" or "Oppressed" for the title of your film?
How about a movie about the DNC since 1968? Revolution in the streets. Riots. Hippie radicals in love. They run Nixon ("boo hiss", not Alger Hiss) out of office and cheer as the US pulls out of Vietnam. Assorted domestic terrorist groups rob banks, target cops, mail bombs to employees at evil corporations. Reagan wins an election after sending George H.W. Bush to negotiate an October Surprise. Americans become homeless. Tears are shed when the Soviet Union topples along with the Berlin Wall. Those hippies we met in the 1968 Chicago riot? Well they now work for "competing" tv news agencies but are still having an on again off again romance. Bill Clinton wins by mandate and all is fine in the world except for a VRWC that would put McCarthy's efforts to shame. And in 2004 their old love with radicalism is reignited. They call the film "The Party" and hope that young America sees the film expecting a big fun film but gets a 190minute encapsulation of the DNC talking points. Infotainment at its worst. Gets some Oscar nominations and becomes required viewing in State run schools.

Isn't there a live Academy Award this year. I was hoping others would do the watching for me....I want to know if Stewart is choking, as I suspect he will...any help?

Jon Stewart was floundering. Polite applause. Looked like it was going to be a long night. I tuned out after they did a gay cowboy montage with footage of Republican actors like Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne.

Idea: Old fashioned Dad, exhausted after a day's work, wants Mom to bring him beer from fridge. Mom gives him Bird, runs him out of house. Now it's ten years later, Mom is high paid consultant and kids are working on PhD's and are both gay (but that's OK).

It will either be a remake of something or it will be another less than 2 star movie like ALL the movies this year.
