A couple of years ago I was on a jury for a misdemeanor trial. We agreed that three of the four offices lied on the stand but we were still convinced that the guy was guilty. During testimony the fourth officer told the truth about falsifying an official document not related to the guilt or innocence. After the trial we talked to the prosecutor. When I asked her if she was going to charge the officer she gave me a go to hell look and walked away. Maybe getting the FBI in on this Troup case made a difference. They may be good for something.

Interesting story and an ususual one. Cops are usually never held accountable for any wrong that they do.

As long as we have Prohibition part II, this will continue to be a sadly familiar story.

Good.
Now they need to move on to Kerens, Corsicana, Axtell, all the little traps up and down Texas 31 between Waco and Tyler.
The cops in all those little jerkwater towns suck.
And I don't care who likes my opinion.
Or doesn't like it.
I've had too many nonsense stops made on me up and down that stinking highway.
Nothing but damn revenue collecting departments, instead of police departments.
A ticket for a "dim", not out, but dim brake light.
Tickets for two, yes, two miles over the limit.
A ticket for not having a "current" insurance card, the one in possession good beginning the next day after the ticket was issued, my mistake for having thrown away the one that expired that day, I guess, a ticket for littering because of the damn Chamber of Commerce BBQ fund raiser flyer, placed on my vehicle at the damn grocery store in Kerens, which flew off as soon as I drove more than ten feet, a ticket for a broken windshield (a rock pit right in front of my drivers vision, caused by a nitwit passing me on 31, at what was most likely 95 - 100 mph).
A ticket for not having long enough safety chains on a trailer hauling a motorcycle, since the POS cop that stopped me didn't like HD's.
A ticket for not having my tail gate up while on the highway (later thrown out by the judge, by not until I had to make a separate damn trip back to a hole by the name of Malakoff or something like that), a ticket for unsafe equipment (a piece of a coat hanger dragging from the bumper of my truck, picked up God knows where) and so on and so on, over a period of nearly 10 years while stationed at Fort Hood and traveling between there and Alabama on a regular basis.
I hate that stretch of road with a passion and when I travel back to Texas on occasion now, to see my son, I refuse to drive on Texas Highway 31.

The department's equipment was seized by officers from other law-enforcement agencies. Damn vultures!
