Word For The Day, Thursday, March 2, 2006 - scion

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

scion \SY-uhn\, noun
1. A detached shoot or twig of a plant used for grafting.
2. Hence, a descendant; an heir.

Example sentence:
Convinced he was the scion of Louis Alexandre Lebris de Kerouac, a noble Breton, he was off to do genealogical research in the Paris libraries and then to locate his ancestor's hometown in Brittany.

Etymology: Scion derives from Old French cion, of Germanic origin.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Yum-pizza! I'll be eating leftovers tonight because I'm making sausage and (gag!) sauerkraut for hubby, and as y'all know, I can't even stand the smell of the wretched stuff.

The radio in the kitchen was on for the third day in a row when I got home-and I do not turn it on in the morning. I don't see how the dog or cats could turn it on-the buttons are on the side, not the top, but I suppose it is possible. It is either that, or the spooks have developed a taste for country music, which is what is was set on.
