In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
scion \SY-uhn\, noun
1. A detached shoot or twig of a plant used for grafting.
2. Hence, a descendant; an heir.
Example sentence:
Convinced he was the scion of Louis Alexandre Lebris de Kerouac, a noble Breton, he was off to do genealogical research in the Paris libraries and then to locate his ancestor's hometown in Brittany.
-- Ellis Amburn, Subterranean Kerouac
Etymology: Scion derives from Old French cion, of Germanic origin.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Oh, that is a cute baby!!! I want one!
Thanks very much.
I'd love to help you out, but I'd have to undergo some restorative outpatient surgery first.
Oh, I appreciate that offer Vast, but if the Marine found out you'd have to go through much more restorative surgery than that! ;^)
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse is that you cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal", "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians.
It creates a hostile work environment.
Yeah, it violates their rights to say, steal and do whatever the hell they want.
Probably just when I plan something outdoors huh?
Yup!
A for you. Where are you?
We're in NE PA - looks more like drizzle now. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Although I'd rather have the time off in the summer, a snow day now & then is a nice break in the action.
That is a truly gut-wrenching submission. A+
Dumb, dumber and dumbest. A+ Grimmy!
I think it's wonderful that the teacher has to try and defend his behavior. It is typical for Social Studies teachers. I think they confusedly believed they were permitted to teach Socialism Studies. A+.
A+ for you ti! Formatted and everything!
A for you, even though you misspelled genealogy. You still made a good point.
Good thing you pinged CJ. A+
