There was a show on the History Channel about alcohol and it's manufacture. I remember something about vodka being one of the few alcoholic beverages that is not flavored, just distilled and filtered. Maybe the cheap stuff isn't filtered well.

For only 22 bucks you can get high end vodka? :) (Worth a shot I suppose)
