The new "place to live" may yet end up being the United States. Things have been pretty complicated around here, so for the time being, even though the current living situation is far-from-ideal, we're staying put.
Living in New York City's general area would be fun... I could catch up with some of the FReepers in person, as well as further my studies... so, we'll see!

"Playing"? eeep... playing with fire, that one. Why must the childfree by choice be demonized like this?
*zips lip, goes back to lighthearted posting... yet can't resist peeking back at that thread... it's like a train wreck... I shouldn't look... noooooooooo*
Looks like I really need to go back to study. I have too much time on my hands these days, even with FReeping and running another website, and planning a wedding (my own, and yes, my second marriage. My first husband was a FReeper who didn't want kids either, but he died back in 2003... anyway I digress)

I know someone who would love that photo as a screensaver. Namely my mother.

Best detterent of all, a bolt with a worn head!!
Here in Australia, each state will generally issue you with license plates just once for the life of the car. I shifted states once when my car was 23 years old and still had the original plates on it... when I went to re-register the car in the state I'd moved to, I was supposed to hand both old license plates in, but I could only give them one because the other one had literally rusted to the car. We had to use an angle-grinder to get that thing free...
Now THERE's a good deterrent! *grins*

The busy times don't seem to quit. I was glad (in a way) to be back from India, but Thursday night into Saturday afternoon was taken up with a theological conference in Seattle, after which I had a major effort to bring the Traditional Anglican ping list up to date then after our Vestry meeting at church Sunday after the service I had to update the church's website, and by then it was late Sunday night and I was ill with this hacking cough that's going around and I hadn't even really started to think about packing for tomorrow's trip, which ought to have been simple because on Thursday I return home except that on the last trip American Airlines put the coup de grace to my suiter which was really a bit big anyway for such a short trip so the goodwife is chasing down a "FlyRoll" (or something like that) which we'd seen at the store when preparing for Anchorage but the store ran out just before she got there so she's braving more Seattle-area traffic while I'm here catching up on a few things including additional updates to the church website before I take off tomorrow morning for Baltimore and laying out things to be packed including an inordinate number of chargers for the laptop, cellphone, MP3 player, PDA, etc. --at least the electronic bagpipe practice chanter and watch run on coin cells and I'm leaving the digital camera home this trip-- and... and... and... and... and... um.
Where was I...?
Sound like they work you way too hard! *ruefully sympathetic grin*
Oh, if you get a chance, could I be added to that ping list of yours? Just when you have time. Maybe June. 2009. *smiles*

Well, the university laptop I had last year...
<shortstory>
I didn't just choke--I stuned (not one, but) two hard drives. And not because of fur or debris, or even a moderate stuning.
The original one was just bad from the start--although I didn't find this out until I tried to partition it.
Got the second one placed into my computer courtesy of IT, partitioned it, ran it on the computer as a Windows/Linux dual boot. Paved over the partitions with a relatively obscure OS and turned the laptop back into IT. (I was leaving the university so I had to turn it in--might as well have some fun...)

Howdy all!
I hope that your weekend was fabulous. Mine was!
Tertia and I went to the PA Ballet on Saturday night as a birthday present. The boys' instructor still works for the PA Ballet so he upgraded our tickets and arranged for a backstage tour during intermission.
The dancing was superb! I preferred the Christopher D'Amboise "Franklin Court" (it's set to JS Bach's G Minor Fugue; hard to beat Bach, imo) while Tertia preferred The Firebird. The staging for Firebird was amazing (set in a South American jungle with Aztec/Maya influenced costumes), I'll give them that, but Stravinsky just can't top Bach!
During intermission, we went backstage to watch the set change for Firebird. It was an eye opening experience to see the sets coming together: the lighting, the nets, and the props combining to create the illusion of a jungle.
We met Arantxa Ochoa, who played the part of the Firebird; Michelle, who played a lizard; and Martha Chamberlain, who played the part of Princess Vasilisa. (In the company, that character is referred to as "Princess Vaseline".) They all stopped to talk to us. Tertia was just amazed. I stood back a little to watch her as she watched the dancers warming up on stage. She stood as she usually does when at rest, in third position, only this time, she was mimicking the dancers' warm-up steps. Too precious!
Primus and Secundus had a great time at the meet. Neither one qualified for JO's, but they each dropped seconds (in some cases between 5 and 9 seconds) off of their previous best times in each of the events in which they competed. Primus took home a 7th place ribbon for the 50 yd breastroke; Secundus took home two ribbons: 7th place in the 100 yd IM and sixth in the 100 yd breastroke. I'm so proud of them!
Now, I'm back to the usual grindstone. Today is test day, so the kids are gathering their materials and are waiting for Prof. Mommy to show up at the dining room table.
How are all of you doing?
