Yeah, I'm back. Lonnnnng day - it's nine to five-thirty, and being as how I much prefer earlier mornings, that makes it even longer.

I was sorta helpful in places. But I'm not sure how I feel about the whole place in general. There are a lot of things that will take time to get used to, if I stick around. For one, although I can deal with the pressure of needing to get things done quickly, the idea that a customer will pay if I *don't* get done quickly is hard to take. I don't like that aspect. Granted, for small places, paying a high hourly fee is still far cheaper than keeping a tech on-site at all times, but even so...

And the boss is rather a micromanager who's always suspicious that people are trying to get away with stuff. That could be even harder to get used to.

On the other hand, so long as I clock in and out like a good girl, I can likely work around [vey local] interviews at other places. So there's that. And I'm doing more in-depth hardware repair than I've done before, which is good for me. They do builds and replace motherboards and such, where everywhere else I've worked has troubleshot to a certain level and then called the manufacturer.

And it's a paycheck, of course, which is the main thing right now.

Well... it sounds like it'll be OK at least for a little while at least? Wahoo!

It had to feel good... to walk in to *your* job today. :-)

Well, glad it went more or less ok. And that it's a paycheck. Keep looking for the perfect job!

Exactly, sis. It's a paycheck to keep you going until the *perfect* job comes along.

And that is a very good thing!

When are you going for the government job interview?

So ...

I spent all day at work staring at my cellphone, willing it to ring. I finished my training today, and passed the test, and listened in on live calls, all the while staring at my phone and fretting. Finally, at 4:45 this afternoon, the recruiter called back with the good news ... I'm in with the better job! I start next Wednesday at 1pm (it's a scheduling thing)!

Of course, everyone in charge at the current job had tiptoed out early --- my trainer, getting a jump on her vacation; her boss, getting a jump on the weekend, the big boss also AWOL. So I called the recruiter. I thanked him fulsomely for working so hard on my behalf, told him I'd been presented with an opportunity I couldn't pass up, and offered to work a short notice. He said he understood, and that the notice wasn't necessary. I told him I'd like to come in Monday to personally thank the woman who hired me, and he thought that was a good idea.

So, I'm pretty durn happy, what with this being Friday and all. I leave work, go pick up DaBear, and he's driving us back across town when my cellphone rings. I think it's thenewrecruiter, calling about thenewjob.

Nope, it's a chick from a company I applied to weeks ago, calling to find out if I'm still interested in a software tester job that pays a little more than thenewjob. It's a direct hire, no contracting, with benefits off the bat, in a field closer to programming, with a company that will always make money --- they manufacture gambling machines. So, I'm doing a phone interview with her Monday morning.

I'm being poured on ... and it feels right good!

Happy Friday evening, all!
