The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Here's muh pictures for today. The daffodils are almost gone, but the tulips are coming in nicely. I thought the ones out front were all red, but some pink ones showed up.

Hard to believe the yard looked like this last week...

Pretty! Do you plant fresh tulips every year? I've never gotten them to look as good the second year as they did the first.

I'm hoping these will come back. At least I'm going to try that. The ones I planted two years ago didn't. But I spent a little more on these, so hopefully they're a little sturdier.

Lovely! I'm envious...I really want flowers, and right now I barely have grass...

Heh...notice I didn't post pictures of the full yard. Everyone else has nice green lawns. But we have zoysia grass. It won't get green until it warms up and we get some rain.

I have big bare patches where the former tenants' pals had their additional trailers. That and a lot of the grass by the house got kilt somehow, and the back hasn't been mowed in who knows how long.

It'll be green eventually, though. And eventually I'll have flowers. ;-) Looks a lot better than it did, in any case!

Heh...first time we raked the back yard, we had naybers on three sides tell us it was the best it had looked in years. Previous owners ~never~ raked it.

Very nice display; don't have any idea when our tulip will bloom; our dafodills survived our cold snap and winds, all of them have bloomed and are looking good now.

Hey there! Just looked at the cable TV guide, and last Wednesday's episode of "Lost" is being repeated on ABC tonight! It's on at 9:00 pm our time, so that would be 10:00 pm your time? After "The Ring", in any case.

Purty flowers! I might be asking you to send me some more Stargazer Lilies after we move. When do you plant them down there? I planted the ones you sent me in the Fall, and dang if I can remember exactly where! I think I planted them next to where my other day lilies were, but I just don't know. I'll have to wait until the summer to find out, I guess.

Heh...same here. I dug up ~everything~ to do the stream bed. Nana sorted hundreds of bulbs. I planted them all back in the fall. They're coming up now.

When I find 'em, I'll make a note and be glad to save you some!

Thanks! I probably won't be needing them before the fall or even next Spring, anyway.
