Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Through shadows to the edge of night
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Oh, Hi there! I didn't know if you'd be 'monitoring the thread' or not. Well, the guy did say that they would likely be checking the references today, right? It's early there, yet!

Y'all just aren't any fun when you're not here to panic.
First the disclaimer: She's okay, but Nana fell today. Here's the story.
She was going to bake some banana bread. She had all the ingredients out but couldn't find the baking soda. In the process she dropped a whole box of corn starch.
She tried to sweep it up without using her walker, and she fell...into a basket of unfolded (but clean) clothes. And, of course, she couldn't get up.
This was around noon. She slid the basket around the floor trying to get up and ~could have called~ but she didn't. So she sat there until Jr. came home at 2:00 p.m. and got her up.
She's okay, but a little shaken and a little sore. If that basket hadn't been there, we'da been in a heap of trouble.
If it wasn't so scary, it'd be one helluva story. Oh heck, it is anyway...

Thank goodness she's OK! That could have ended up being a whole lot worse. :-/

I get all jittery just thinking about what ~might~ have been.

Hmm... reminds me of the time I could have had my toes chewed off, but didn't.
Good evening!

Do we ~want~ to know this story?

I'm jittery thinkin' about what kind of story is behind Bear almost getting his toes chewed off!

I had nothing to do with it. Over the years, I've done various things to his toes, but I've never even considered chewing on them.

Well, this happened a long time ago... I was 9 or 10, I think. My grandparents would spend the summers caretaking at a fish hatchery out in the woods. Every Sunday us and all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins would go out there for dinner, playing cards, and drinking beer (in fact, my first job was bringing fresh bottles at a nickle apiece, but I digress...)
Anyway, one summer two of my cousins had a 6-wheeled ATV that sort of looked like this, but theirs was yellow:

They were still in the process of fixing it up, but it ran well enough. Because they were still working on it, they had removed the floor cover in the passenger area. The drive chains for the six wheels ran along just inside each side and normally would have been covered by that floor panel. But of course, they weren't...
So there we were, zooming along through the woods, having a grand ol' time, when the ATV went over a big bump, and me, sitting in the front seat passenger side, had my legs fly out in front of me, catching my right sneaker-covered foot between the drive chain and the gear that pulled it, which quickly proceeded to chew my shoe up.
I yelled, my cousin stopped the vehicle, and then backed it up to release my shoe. The end of my sneaker was neatly chewed off just behind the rubber toe-cover. Luckily, I was a growing boy, so my shoes were a little too big for me; when it had gotten stuck, I had pulled my foot back, and even though my foot stayed in the shoe there was enough room that my toes didn't even get touched by the gear or drive chain.
So, we drove back to the house, me with a bare foot, and walked in that way. When everyone asked why I had my shoe off, I pulled it out from behind my back and showed them how the toe cover of my sneaker was all floppy, hanging by a thin piece of rubber.
I don't think I ever heard my Grandma yell that loud, before or after...

Evenin' folkses! :-)

Oy. Well... the week has gone surprisingly well so far. Dunno how it will finish up. I get my review tomorrow. [ack]. We'll see... :-)
