The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's sad, isn't it?

All that fame and fortune and you end up looking no better than a homeless dude.

It's the job I really want - not a government job, but a really good, long term kinda deal with decent benefits and really nice co-workers.

Ungh...I'm just so nervous over this that I've been totally scatterbrained and stressed out all day - I accomplished nothing and had to keep asking for help and kept messing things up. I'm hoping I get the call from them tomorrow, but I'm just sick to my stomach 'cause I'm so worried this will put me out of the running in spite of everything. The guy sounded a little terse on the phone, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

And if I *do* get the call, I have to give notice, and I'm really stressing about that, too, especially as the daughter is out until Tuesday, so I couldn't go through her. It won't be pretty, no matter what.

Were the refs all at the same company? If so, maybe he'll assume they redid their phones or something. It's not like you intentionally gave bad references!

No, they weren't. One was at the company where I worked, and I assume they changed the switchboard number. I confirmed one, and also got the direct line for another contact there. And one of the others was the lady at Catholic Charities. I just left that one alone and put my last two supervisors from Vermont on instead.

Got to chat a bit with the guy who was my boss when I first got out of the Air Force. That was nice - it'd been awhile. He and his family are nice folks. The younger kids are homeschooled, and all of 'em are just...good conservative Christians. So it was nice catchin' up, though he'd heard a lot through the grapevine and already knew I was in Washington and all. ;-) No secrets in a small town.

Well, how nice! He'll be a strong supporter on your side and he knows to expect the call, at least, so that's definitely positive.

Now. Go watch Amazing Race, cadge a drink from Hair, and calm down! Or we'll make you drink some of 2J's Tension Tamer!

It's true we've got bourbon here... and you're welcome to it. I'm having some. :~D

I'm a bit of a basket case thinking I might get killed by a tree and wondering if I'm gonna have to tell the govt. every time my horses take a dump.

Ok, so you two basket cases console each other and have a drink. Have a couple. When you start crying and going on about how rough life can be but how beautiful it all is, have ecurbh take the keys and keyboards away from you.

Don't worry so much. That'll kill ya.

No trees will fall and the ID chip thingy will fall far short of having to report every movement, bowel or otherwise. ;-)
