The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Bear, the guys at the ARNG told me that if I could find out the date they circled my house three times (when I got that series of photos), they could find out who it was that did the circling and tell me! Also, they said they'd write it on the back of the picture frame (which is what I wanted to do.)

So if you get time sometime, would you look that up for me? I'd appreciate it!

Also, the guy that wrote me back...remember that guy that wrote me back and gave me his wing patch? I sent him knife... Well...he has been deployed to Iraq. I found that out too, during the field trip.

It's bigger than mine, but there's nothing more difficult about a larger tank, once they're over 10-20 gal you can't really pick them up to clean them out anyway... you clean and vacuum them in place. There's some ease to a larger tank, it'll stay cleaner longer if the filter's good and you don't overpopulate it. It's good. If you think you want fish, I'd say start out with a nice sized tank.

I'm just not sure

1) where I'd put it

2) if I need ~something else~ to do right now

I'd just hate to pass up a bargain.

It's a commitment... But I think of fish as being decor more than a pet. I like them in the living room, but I also like them in the bedroom, they make a nice pretty nightlight to look at, and the sound of the water is soothing, unless you're a bedwetter, in which case I wouldn't recommend it ;~D

You need a substantial piece of furniture to put it on. it weighs 8.3*55=456 pounds with just water in it... not countin' rocks :~D

I think I'll pass this time. I really don't have a good location for a tank. Especially one that big.

It'll stay on my want to before I die list...

You're not blaming me for killing it, are you? It was dead when I arrived.

The Chaplain sent me that tee shirt...

Please let him know that his Hobbit Hole replacement knife was sent today. It has his name engraved on it, so it should be easier to keep track of. I don't have a good email address for him, so my note bounced.

I have witnesses. The professor, for one. And I walked back to the department with a classmate while we discussed IDEs and Java. How's that?

As if I'm supposed to believe anyone ~really~ discusses IDEs and Java...

Well, we are computer geeks. Discussing the high points of Eclipse and how silly it is not to use it makes us happy...
