Well...
[sip]
Been lookin' at dad's computer
[sip]
Brought home an XP SP2 repair cd... it's not looking good. The repair option just drops me to a C: prompt. It sees that there *is* a c:, but there's nothing there. No volume info at all. No name, no serial number, no data, no size.

WOOT! This has been a banner week in the Hobbit Hole!
I'm thrilled for ya, chica!
*rockin' out in my chair*
Weird.... You think it's dead?
Rosie has gotten home... she's over at her other place - she survived her first day :~D
*waiting for a full report on The First Day*
Yeah, I'm back. Lonnnnng day - it's nine to five-thirty, and being as how I much prefer earlier mornings, that makes it even longer.
I was sorta helpful in places. But I'm not sure how I feel about the whole place in general. There are a lot of things that will take time to get used to, if I stick around. For one, although I can deal with the pressure of needing to get things done quickly, the idea that a customer will pay if I *don't* get done quickly is hard to take. I don't like that aspect. Granted, for small places, paying a high hourly fee is still far cheaper than keeping a tech on-site at all times, but even so...
And the boss is rather a micromanager who's always suspicious that people are trying to get away with stuff. That could be even harder to get used to.
On the other hand, so long as I clock in and out like a good girl, I can likely work around [vey local] interviews at other places. So there's that. And I'm doing more in-depth hardware repair than I've done before, which is good for me. They do builds and replace motherboards and such, where everywhere else I've worked has troubleshot to a certain level and then called the manufacturer.
And it's a paycheck, of course, which is the main thing right now.
Oh, and I meant to say congratulations!!!! Really happy for you, Rose!
Well... it sounds like it'll be OK at least for a little while at least? Wahoo!
It had to feel good... to walk in to *your* job today. :-)
Well, glad it went more or less ok. And that it's a paycheck. Keep looking for the perfect job!
[scrolling up finally]
Hey! Rose! That's awesome! :-)
Exactly, sis. It's a paycheck to keep you going until the *perfect* job comes along.
And that is a very good thing!
When are you going for the government job interview?
That interview is on Friday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It would be kind too good to be true if I got that one...
And I'm still waiting to hear back on the third possibility. I told 'em my availability was early mornings, and I'm hoping that won't hurt my chances. Eek!
Apparently that wind did a number on a lot of systems. We got a few in today with fried components due to brown-outs and all.
Sounds like something frightened him. It really does. Sounds like the poor kittie got a fright!
Black Hawk flying over.
Oh, I doubt it. Most folks are slouches about getting up early.
*coughs discreetly*
:-)
I just can't remember when their work day started. If they *really* want me, they'll be willing to interview me in the morning, even if it's before the normal day...but what if there are lotsa other folks who are happy to come in whenever?
On the other hand, they know I'm not just interested on account of I need a job, any job. Hopefully.
But they aren't you! Don't trivialize your own value, chica. *smiles*
It sounds good Rosie...it'll pay the bills and you can keep an eye out for better things if you want.
I'm so glad for ya!
Two of 'em. Two Black Hawks.
They're coming to take you away. ;-)
Speaking of "away", we're headed out to dinner. See ya later!
