The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So I see that Brokeback Mountain was DENIED, though Ang Lee did win Best Director! Crash won best picture! A big night for Reese Witherspoon; she wins Best Actress, and her husband's movie wins Best Film! Cool!

Well...it'll be a long time until I'm truly "settled", but at least the bed is made, the cats fed, and my groceries put away.

I have to figure out what to do with the microwave. It doesn't fit on the fridge. Grrr...

And Halvah's already christened the carpet in the hallway. Did her usual hogging of the food while Tam was trying to get a bit in edgewise. But at least she's being cheerful and treating him nicely otherwise.

Doesn't fit? Is it too deep? Can you just pull the fridge out a bit?

It's quite a bit too deep. I think I could get it to work if I took the knobs off those cabinets and also pulled the fridge out a bit, but it's not something I wanna tackle tonight.

Speaking of the fridge, I wonder if it'd be worth trying to replace the seal. You can get that stuff at any hardware store, right?

I'm having some milk, and it doesn't feel cold. I suppose that's probably just because I just brought it home, though.

Am I paranoid or what?

Could be... It wouldn't surprise me that the fridge isn't great...

I hope it turns out to be just that it was warm from the trip home. I reallllly don't want to have to attempt to talk the landlord into a new fridge, or at least into taking this one away.

Tam is upset because there are a few drawers he hasn't managed to open. Brat. And both cats have done a lot of laps tonight...monster fashion.

Could it be that you can find one cheap on craig's list?

Probably. I've seen some in the hundred dollar range, in any case. I could maybe even get rid of the old one on there, for that matter, if it truly doesn't work *quite* as it should.

Well, that might be worth doing then... we'll see how this one pans out - if it does or doesn't keep things cold.
