The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And no one would ever give you an 82 on a gun quiz again.

Hmmm... actually... I wonder if the "show up armed" strategy might help me next week for midterms. Probably more trouble than it's worth...

I scored 21 of 21, putting me in the 86th percentile. I guess that's as high as one can go on only 21 questions. I had to guess on the Moisin-Nagant bayonet one. A bit out of my league.

You are 86% of a gun nut! You have excellent skills in weapons handling. I could definetly trust you to cover my back. Matter of fact, you're probably packing right now!

Heh, it was doubtless a very long two hours; remember LSA's tuner. But the end results were worth it.

We're glad to hear the piano tuned up well. OB & LSA

I suppose "get sick, skip the midterm and fail class OR show up and die" is not really that hard to evaluate... well, maybe...

I'm sitting here watching it, liking it for the powerful story that it is. And tomorrow I'll probably watch the Academy give awards to Brokeback Mountain because it so 'bravely' tells the story of men and their flaws. Only Hollyweird doesn't see them as flaws, but points of pride. The bravery isn't in wallowing in our flaws, but in moving on in spite of them, in trying every day to overcome them.

Roseanne Cash has a new album out. Listen for "Black Cadillac." Heck of a song. It takes on a whole new context after seeing this movie.

It was a black Cadillac drove you away
Everybody's talkin'
But they don't have much to say
There was a black sky of rain
None of it fell
One of us gets to go to heaven
One has to stay here in hell

Now it's a lonely world
Guess it always was
Minus you and minus blood
My blood

It was a black Cadillac

Like one you used to drive
Now you were always rollin'
But those wheels burn up your life
Oh, it's a black heart of pain that I'm wearin'
Suits me just fine
Oh, there was nothin' I could do for you
When you were still alive

Yeah, it's a lonely world
Just a numbers game
Well, a hundred years
Will find me feelin' just the same

Yeah, it's a lonely world
I guess it always was
Minus you and minus blood
My blood
