Oh thank heaven he's alright. I was gonna call you earlier but it was only 4 o'clock your time and I figured you were at the vet's. :-/

Sounds like he had a "stress event" just as you called it. A fight, a scare or maybe he's spotted whatever it was that he tangled with the time he disappeared.

Whatever it was, I'm glad he's OK now. Naughty boy! No fair giving two huge scares in the same year!
