This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Nite :) Work tomorrow so I guess I best head to bed also.
Becky, I just had to jump in over there, my message is having to be approved by mods before posting. Somebody named Linda posted a loooong message about how she disciplines her horse. My point was "beat the snot out of your horse at home if you want, but at a competition, it's against the rules."
I got number 1 right but didn't even try the other 2.
Her post was pretty good, but you're right, she did not address that a competition is not the place for it.
I have a feeling that some will come back and say their horses act fine at home, but get silly at a competition, so what are they suppose to do about training it....I would think pleasure rides would simulate a competition...or guess what...they just might not be a competition horse:)
Also her last paragraph about making snap judgements and leaving it to the judges, well gave me the perfect in for the part about this whole thing that puzzles me the most. Why the ride officials blew off the reports.
Becky
Those dweebs won't post my message! I read yours and you said, in a much nicer way, what I said. I was a bit abrupt but not ugly.
They definitely are dancing around your question.
Well the crux of the problem for me is the part about the officials blowing off the reports. I have been very disappointed by that.
Becky
Yup, that's the bottom line. Don't think you're gonna get an answer, either.
The guy that got second place, got second place by basically cheating. It was reported, but nothing done. That's a sorry state of affairs, imo.
LOL...when you first start posting over there they do hold them for the mod to review. After you have posted 5-6 times then there isn't a wait. The mod mustn't be up yet:)
Becky
This is my exact post:
"Hi, I've been following this thread as I'm interested in CTR.
The question that "Becky" asked was what are the rules regarding abuse
during a competition. The answer that "Linda" gives explains her
methods of discipline and going to any lengths to get a horse to do
what she wants. Well, during a competition, are there not rules
regarding what type of discipline is acceptable and any deviation from
it requires disqualification? In other words, beat the snot out of
your horse at home if you want but in a competition, it's against the
rules."
Unless it goes in the net it's hard to challenge decisions sometimes.
Well it will be good to have more then one person making that point:) I wish all the people who are private messaging me would chime in:). They just keep telling me to keep it up....Maybe they are smarter then me:)
Becky
I'm trying to get in there and back you up! Hopefully, they'll post my message.
Oh Gawd, another "professional" is chiming in, without answering the dang question.
I wanna get in there!!!!
This is really making me mad and I have to leave in a few minutes. Becky's credibility is being questioned on the other forum when all they have to do is answer the dang question. Is it legal during a competition to beat your horse, or not? Those people sound like they would cheat on a math test, because they needed to, "just this once."
The kid beating his pig with the crop should have been disqualified, if beating the pig to get what you want him to do during a competition, is against the rules.
LOL...Hey thanks tuffy:) I really really appreciate your trying to support me. Hang in there. I've had a feeling this could flare up again after the weekend. That site really slows down during the weekends, but usually gets going pretty hot. That's one reason I held off about the judges response till now.
Becky
My point was that even if you can't change rules you can still do stuff to modify bad behavior. You think some guy is going to rough up his horse during competion again after getting called up on his thread? The judge will be thinking about this too. Just because they didn't answer her question doesn't mean she didn't get anywhere with this. Ok, I'm off my soap box. Morning:')

Well, you're right, I didn't think of that. It wasn't such a lost cause after all.
Glad to help.
They are trying very hard to get the focus off the bad behavior, (the cheating and nothing being done about it when reported) , and onto getting you to give your last name, which is totally not the point. I want to get in there and get them back on track.
Well now I'm on the crusade to make sure the judges and officials pay attention to abuse reports:)
I may have to take a ball bat with me to the next ride:)
Actually tho, I think at the next ride, I'm going to stand up when they ask if there are any questions and say, "I'm Becky ________, and I'm proud of it, and I want to know how serious you judges/officials will be about abuse reports". That ought to get everyone going:)
