The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL! We call those a dirt devil or out in West Texas, a dust devil.

Cyn was funny. I think she wanted to play with it but wasn't too sure exactly what it was!

Oh - good - glad to have found a size and file type you can play! After it stopped she went over, she was mostly interested in that piece of paper... she was disappointed when she got there and it wasn't moving any more.

It is so very hard to get started. I know for a fact I wouldn't ride as much as I do if I had to trailer somewhere to do it.

Don't feel bad.

"I heard an assessment of whole fashion trend once that makes a lot of sense, in a rather sick way... the little low tight pants and little tight shirts with their belly showing, often with big huge clunky shoes... they make young women look like they have just suddenly grown up, like they are bursting out of their little girl clothes that might have fit them yesterday... and the shoes enhance a cartoonish little girl look. Their point was it was a look that was borderline pedophilia in it's appeal."

I've read the same thing and I do believe it's true. I see the children coming into the library and just crinch. I am really glad I'm not trying to raise a child nowdays. Of course, my niece is raising a girl - who's going to be 16yr old in July. She has trouble finding clothes for her because of the styles now days. And my great niece would be in so much trouble if her mom, dad, grandmother, aunt or uncle saw her dressed like that :)

That is TOO funny! She wanted a closer look, but she was afraid it might bite . . .

We get those in our front yard all the time. They pick up the leaves. The dog jumps in and tries to bite the leaves -- so far as we know she's not afraid of anything.

"Me, when I've had a chargey horse, I either bring them to a full stop, stand a second and start again, or I circle the horse in tight circles 3-4 times then come out of the circles heading down the trail, and continue to repeat this till the horse gets the idea it's easier to go easy then to start to charge. I've never had a horse that this didn't work on, and fairly quickly, especially being consistent. "

I agree with you here. (By the way, I'm so far behind I'm copying what I'm replying to so you know what I'm talking about). I read a bit of this the other day. I am very surprised the rider wasn't disqualified and mystified that they placed at all. I didn't think the AERC was that different from other organizations but it must be - if anyone saw anything like this on an endurance ride I'm sure some kind of discipline would result.

It could be though that there is less politics in endurance riding, or less chance maybe of it being effective. It's pretty cut and dried - time over the line, condition of the horse at vet checks and finish.

Bob is the first to correct a horse that's misbehaving. He doesn't abuse them though, and when seeing something that he would view as abuse or just poor horsemanship, will ride/walk up and say "Are you having some kind of problem here?" That generally stops it or gets a request for advice/help if the person really doesn't know how to handle the problem.

Shoot, I can't view the video. Was you twister like the dust devils we get here? Smallish in width but tall?

I think the pony's white marks are from ill fitting tack or harness and I think she parks out during stress because someone punished her a lot at one point and she reverts back to that.

Heh, thanks. I could be a little more diplomatic, though. ;)

Do either of ya'll buy round bales? I just got a call from my round bale man and he's completely out of hay. He's waiting for a small delivery coming tomorrow but doesn't know how good the hay is. He's also wanting a hundred dollars a bale! I almost fainted.
