Well, I think I have a picture of my trunk.

I love ball caps and have quite a selection. They work really well for me too and keep the long ponytail from rubbing the back of my neck.

I wear them while riding as they keep all the little hairs that escape the ponytail from blowing in my eyes, which bothers me when it happens. Wearing the hat reminds me to keep my head up and look between my horse's ears too.

Good Morning, Happy mothers day.

It's a beautiful day here. Blue sky, warm sun, cool breeze. I told Celia I wasn't going to ride today. So I've been out mowing. I guess we are going to eat with the kids this evening. Will probably have a very long wait, but nothing else much to do.

Whose riding today?

Becky

We're riding today - we'll prolly go in a couple hours, just gave the pony her Quiet Pony Powder :~D

Debating because it's gonna be so hot (75) and I got a bit of sunburn yesterday, whether we wouldn't be better to take the more shady trail to the falls instead of the loop we took last week that was through a lot of clearcut. The lower woods trails might be muddier still, though it's been remarkably dry the last few weeks so maybe not.

Our experience last year was that the lowland trails were actually pretty good in the early spring, and didn't get overly muddy and full of mud moguls till they had a couple big organized rides in late May or early June that sent a few hundred horses through there all at once. The big competitive and other organized rides really ought to be disallowed on the lower trails until July, IMHO :~D

I saw on the news how much rain you are getting. Said something about water pouring over a dam.

Well, I just got a call from someone that wants to come look at my Sportster, so I've had to get it out, start it, and now give it a bath. Been really really long since it's been out, it's a mess. Letting the pipes cool now before I wash it. Thank goodness they are coming from a long way, so I've got some time.

"Debating because it's gonna be so hot (75)"

A well known weatherman we used to have in the DFW metroplex named Harold Taft (he pioneered tv weather forecasting) would never use the word "hot" unless it was 100 or above. Anything below was "very warm."

75 in the summer would be pure heaven. I may have to move up there but ya'll would make fun of my Texas accent.

Heh... I said that just so you southerners could express your lack of sympathy :~D

We hardly ever get 100, but 85 is common enough in July... and that's hot enough for me.

LOL, I fell for that hook, line and sinker, didn't I?

85 is still very mild here. Harold might even call that "cool."

Oh really? It wouldn't be surprising. I wonder if it's the Taunton dam. That almost went a couple of months ago when we got slammed and it wasn't even this hard.

Well, I'm not gonna get any sympathy from Beaker either, with their lousy weather.

Our horses are all caught and cleaned, and the trailer all hooked up, we're off now on a trail ride, see you later.

No pictures at the horse show. Alison went into showmanship, all ages. She didn't get anything. I missed that class. When I got there, the storms started to roll in with thunder and lightening. On top of that, a rail road track is right below the show grounds. Ole Andy didn't like that one bit. Alison was riding in Walk-Trot Pleasure and he was starting to act up a little. My daughter went into the ring and took Alison and Andy into the center. No use taking a chance. It was an open show, and the judge was picking all the hi-tailers. She had one more class, but the skies opened up. It was time to leave and go eat at the Cracker Barrel.

We moved the Tubby, the one-eyed pony back to our house. This way Alison and I can get some riding in this summer. Andy does not stay at our place.

Duchess, you think we should show him what we carry in our bail out bags? :')

My bailout bag (actually a cop equipment bag) with the main ingredients:

bag1.JPG

The big challenge is to fill it with the little stuff that's still needed in a crisis. I have spare glasses (I'm dependent on glasses), a week's worth of prescription meds, and a first aid kit with stuff like lip balm and sun screen. Plus other little things like a boonie hat, wool watch cap, gloves, a little bit of food and water. I've also got three sources of fire, and three sources of light (should throw in some cyclalumes, too).

About once a year, I take everything out, and think long and hard about whether it should go back in the bag.

Hi all! Back from our ride :~D We went the opposite direction on the same trail this time. It was a hard ride for us all, attitude wise, the horses were both a bit sleepy and slow, Cyn was unusually spooky, and I think it was because it was the first real warm day and we started a little late. It was a little hot in the sun for us pasty northerners, we wilt like impatiens in the sun :~D

Nice clear view of the mountain today though :~D

Only picture in the creek came out a little blurry :~\ We tried to hand our camera to some people who would take our picture in the creek, but Bay didn't like them coming round, and wouldn't stand when I'd reach out with the camera. Not sure why. ecurbh and I hand cameras and water bottles back and forth to each other all the time. He was weird today. So we bagged it. Didn't want to end up dropping the camera in the drink.

Going the opposite direction on the same trail we've always done the other way, and it was a brand new experience for him - A-rabs :~D

And Cyn's never done this before... side skirted the parts of the trail that had rocks in it.

So between Bay feeling a little plodding, and Cyn doing that, and the mood feeling a little down because of it, it was sortof a contest of wills to make ourselves go the whole loop like we planned. Glad we did, Bay really picked up as we went, especially in the shady parts under the trees. I think days when it's sunny and parched out in the sun, there's no better heaven than the dark shady damp woods. The ferns have really come up in the last week, too. It was a little too early to get any pictures of them last week.

Back at the trailer... Both worked up a good sweat, but it dries on them as fast as they can sweat it.

Oh, so glad I checked the thread before going to bed, else I would not have seen these nice pictures until tomorrow night. Wow, nice shot of the mountain. Was that on horseback? Such nice scenery and great trails.

Took it from horseback - used the zoom though :~D

I read about the show... understand going in to grab horse if the situation seemed a little hairy. I'd have done the same thing.

If you remember, our first show was canceled 'cause of the wind :) Spring is such an iffy time for the shows. I'm glad your daughter went into the class with the two- it's for fun and safety should be first, sadly I've seen a lot of children hurt or frightened because mom and/or dad wanted them to "cowboy up"
