The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Ugh Becky that's awful I'm so sorry. When is your next ride? Is it coming up soon?
Heavy heavy rains have been happening here over the past few days, (today is bad) and it's supposed to continue well into next week. We're under flood warning.

My ride is the 27-28 of this month. He'll be fine, I have no doubt. I just wanted to get in two good days this weekend.

Are you where it could flood?

Becky

Well, it's a bummer with the timing, but he'll still be plenty fit by ride time.

Hauled two truckloads of gravel for Rosie next door this morning, it was chore day... we're riding tomorrow.

I'm not really worried about him being fit. I just wanted to ride:)

Sounds like you had a hard day.

Have fun tomorrow. Celia wants me to put the boot on again and go out again tomorrow to at least do the hills. But I'm afraid too. As much as he was stumbling around, I'm afraid he could pull something.

I'd fear the same thing, I wouldn't like to work out wearing two very different shoes. or, if he's stumbling in them, if he stumbled and fell on his knees, then he'd be out injured.

Yeah it's possible, but the worst that we could get is flooded basements. Nothing much more major than that.

Find out how much posting fences pays and make him an offer he can't turn down, if he will come out when he finishes..

LOL, now Cindy, you're messing with my billfold now:). I think he makes quit a bit. He builds very nice pipe fence. Lots of welding. Welders make a lot of money.

You're a true knife and gadget aficionado.... To give such an old knife new life :~D

That knife really wasn't old, just abused. I was not about to let some dried-up mud get the best of me. I got many theraputic hours of peace and quiet (and a few minutes of swearing) rescuing that knife.

My grandfather's pocket knife, OTOH, is old and abused. I was able to open the blades enough to see that he ground most of the blade away. It just sits on a shelf now.

Some old stuff was carefully maintained. My uncle's Colt M1917 .45 revolver "followed him home" after WW1. It's now in my bailout bag.

It sounds like it's about the same as my bugout bag - for when TSHTF and you're on the road with what you can carry.

My backpack:')

My backpack:

The major contents of my backpack:

The great Northeast power failure of 2004, and Katrina, showed me that some problems are too big for even the federal government to comprehend, much less fix. Also, the official policy of "three days of food and water until we send the National Guard to relocate you" is nonsense.

My backpack gives me the ability to outrange and outshoot by 250 yards some gangbangers with AK47s. That means I get to keep my bailout bag, and its contents.

This is an end-of-the-world setup, but the last few years showed me that this is not inconceivable. If and when the dice come up snake-eyes, I'll have these simple items, found around any household, to help out, and keep me from being an added drain on a system that will be overburdened already from people who didn't make even the simplest preparations.

Good Morning.

Nasty raining, cool today. Kids went to horse show about an hour's drive away. The little one will be showing Walk-Trot again. I am going to go and see how she does, being as I missed the last show.

:) I'll have to get mine out of the car, weigh it and take pictures of the contents. Maybe today, we'll see how things go. Mine's not set up for long term survival, just enough to get me through if I have to walk or go off road to get home to long term supplies.
