In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
repugn \rih-PYOON\ verb
: to contend against : oppose
Example sentence:
"First and chief. . . . let the others repugn as they will: all Titles of Nobility, from Duke to Esquire, or lower, are henceforth abolished." (Thomas Carlyle, The French Revolution: A History)
Etymology: "Repugn" is a word that was relatively common in English in the 16th and 17th centuries. These days, however, English speakers are more likely to be familiar with one of its close relatives, namely, the adjective "repugnant," which formerly meant "hostile" but today most commonly means "exciting distaste or aversion." The Latin root for both of these words is "pugnare," meaning "to fight." Other English derivatives from this root are "pugnacious," meaning "belligerent," and "impugn," meaning "to assail with words or arguments." Even "pungent" is a relative of "pugnare." Therefore, don't try to repugn, or impugn for that matter, the influence of "pugnare" on our languagelest you appear pugnacious!
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

A+ for you. Maybe it's one of those obnoxious little Fast gremlins they've been advertising on TV. I cannot stand those commercials. Those robots are possessed.
A+ for the Reaper!
i forgot to tell you guys that when i left for the airport, by cab, on Tues AM. i had an arab cabdriver (big surprise) he was very chatty. he had talk radio on. we started talking about the cancelled death by lethal injection case. I said that i thought it was ridiculous and he agreed, saying that SAUDI ARABIA has no such problems with crime bc under SHARIA law they will just KILL YOU! so after hearing him sing the praises of sharia law, we went on to the war in Iraq! he was fairly appalled to hear that i AGREE with it, etc. He spewed every leftwing line on it, NO weapons of mass destruction, Bush is inciting others to get nuclear weapons, it is better if everyone has nuclear weapons bc then everyone is deterred. Bush is using wiretaps unlawfully, he is a dictator! it was unbelievable. After i was on the plane i thought, gee, maybe i should nto have been so forthright in my disagreement with him, HE KNOWS WHERE I LIVE~!!@
But YOU probably know a couple of good immigration lawyers who could have his @$$ deported in under 15 minutes.
I wish I knew someone.........immigration lawyers, huh? The most annoying thing is they leave their kids here to party while they spend six months out of country........back home, which they never seem to want to identify.
LOL!
not before he bombed my house! i have no idea what his name was, couldn't find him again if i tried~!
i always thought it was odd the types of furriners you have in upstate NY. lots of bosnians as well, at least around Syracuse, Utica etc.
