Police: Boy trapped by tombstone while vandalizing it
ROODHOUSE, Ill. Police in the central Illinois town of Roodhouse say a teen became pinned under a tombstone after tipping it over during a vandalism spree at a local cemetery. Authorities say it took four firefighters to lift a 600-pound gravestone off the 16-year-old boy's leg early Tuesday after he helped knock over that headstone and dozens others.
The boy is recovering from undisclosed injuries at a hospital. Police Chief Steve Speeks says the boy will be questioned about the alleged vandalism once he's released.
Speeks says about 40 headstones were damaged. Police suspect multiple offenders were involved.
The funeral home director estimates the damage at about ten thousand dollars.
(Roodhouse is about 60 miles southwest of Springfield).
Do the parents have money and can the cemetery recover damages?
He'll probably get 50 hours of community service in the library.
He's only 16.
He's got lots of time for the ton of bricks to fall on him.
If he should turn around his life........that's his choice.
If he's only 16, he's gonna pull community service. Maybe washing police cars?
Should have left the stone on top of him.
