I don't know, but something about this story stinks.

"animal feces make up nearly 4 percent of residential waste, or 6,500 tons a year nearly as much as disposable diapers"
Curious corrollation.
Presumably replacing children (that gays cannot have) with animals.

Hmm. There's a joke in there somewhere but it occurs to me that San Francisco is a good choice for this experiment. If you get my drift.

Hmm. We have a lot of dogs, and for a while this had me excited. Home energy from dog poops!
But a million bucks for a methane digester is is a bit pricey. Just have to wait for the price to drop, I guess.

City officials are hoping to harness the power of dog doo. San Franciscans already recycle more than 60 percent of their garbage, but in this dog-friendly town, animal feces make up nearly 4 percent of residential waste, or 6,500 tons a year... That's a lot of crap!

I get a kick out of watching multimillionaires in Marblehead walking their $1,000 dogs with a bag of poop in their free hand.
My dogs poop in their yard, I mulch it and feed it through the garden. Poop, green grass, dried maple leaves and wood ash make a fine mulch.
Should see my carrots and broccoli in November.

In the spring, in deep snow country, the dog poop is the first thing to bloom.

Maybe he just searched on "San Francisco." That should always turn up plenty of it. :)

The point is -- that's a disproportionately huge number of pets. The article even says SF is unusually dog friendly.
The cause is obvious; but it sounds like I hit a sore spot, sorry.
