Would anyone be able to share a useful link for horsepower/engine/make/model comparison lists?
I'm actually more concerned about power and would like to start shopping from that perspective and then narrow it down from there.
I've been with GM products for over 10 years. Specifically my last two cars had V6 3800 Series II Supercharged, L67s (240HP.) That's been good, but I'm ready to consider anything powerful going forward.
Thanks!
Hemi's rule top fuel.
3800
Best engine GM ever built.
Volkswagen/Bugatti Veyron, 1001 hp, $1.2million. You'll be able to outrun any police helicopter, with the max speed on the flat ground about 260 miles per hour.
They've been good to me - no complaints in the motor department, which is why I haven't looked anywhere else in over a decade. I do know that Japanese makers have been beefing up their HP offerings, which is why I'm open to taking a look at them or Ford, Dodge, etc.
A section of Pacific Coast Highway was closed Tuesday after a single-vehicle car crash, officials said.
Paramedics were sent to P.C.H. at Decker Road at 6:15 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ron Haralson said.
By 8:35 a.m., one lane was reopened in each direction, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The vehicle, a Ferrari -- reportedly worth between $600,000 and $1 million -- was badly damaged. One person suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
"We have the passenger, who told us the driver did flee from the scene," Sheriff's Sgt. Philip Brooks said. "And we ... followed some footprints up the side of the hill in an effort to locate the driver."
A three-hour foot and helicopter search failed to find driver.
Authorities believe the Ferrari, which broke in half, "was traveling at least 100 mph and it will probably be a lot more than that once we conclude our investigation," Brooks said.
For a million dollars, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently in this case it did work," he added. Some electrical service in the area was interrupted because the car struck a power pole.
What kind of car are you looking for?
If anything, you can't go wrong with Chrysler's 5.7L Hemi engine. I've had two of these things (Dodge Durango), they are awesome.
Not really sure yet. Sedan, Full Size, Sporty/Sedan, at least that's where I'm thinking I'll start. Do you know what else do they drop that 5.7 into? Durango might be a little larger vehicle that ideal for me (or maybe not, I'll look into it.)
Sounds good, thanks for the link!
They sell it in a bunch of cars. Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Chrysler 300C, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander.
If you're looking for a sedan, I'd say 300C or Charger is your best bet. It all comes down to your personal tastes. Pretty much everyone loves the 300, but the Charger is kinda mixed. Some people hate it because it has four doors, others love it. Personally, I think it looks great, and I would much rather have a Charger than the Durango I currently drive. A final note, not a big deal if you want the Hemi though: look right past the low-end 300/Charger. The smaller engine leaves them underpowered, interior isn't nearly as nice.
And the Durango, it's a large SUV. Nowhere near a sedan. Solid vehicle though, I think I've owned about 6 of the new generation ones, no problems.
You can get high output in almost any category, from SUVs, sedans, and sports cars, to pickup trucks.
Narrow down the category first.
The new DaimlerChrysler Hemi is offered in a number of different vehicles, and of course the Germans have a number of hot rods in 6, 8, 10 and 12 cyl variants.
What kind of vehicle do you want, and how much do you want to spend?
There are a bunch of competitive vehicles in the 300hp range, quite a few in the 400hp, and a couple even in the 500hp range, although as you'd expect you have to pay to play.
A friend bought a '66 Mustang with a decent body but worn out drive train. A fuel injected crate motor, 6 speed trans, new rear end, updated suspension, disk brakes, and he now has the car he wants to keep for the rest of his life. He can get 20 mpg if he keeps his foot out of it and can actually work on the car.
Chrysler 300C SRT8 is prolly the highest HP for the $$ in that category.
I believe the SRT8 has the even more powerful 6.1L Hemi. Something like 420 HP.
That's the second point in that direction, I'll definately take a look at it, thanks!
definately=definitely
Infiniti M45 is expensive, but rear drive, V8, and 340hp.
Cadillac STS Northstar V8 is 320hp.
If you like the 6.1L Hemi, they also offer it in the Dodge Charger SRT8. Really it comes down to personal preference between the 300 and Charger. Same basic underpinnings. The Charger SRT8 is probably several thousand dollars less expensive though.
