Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's 250+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 204th place, having reached more than 2,000,000 points!
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

Did you find the InCrease program? I installed it here yesterday, so now both processors on this dual processor are working. I can give you the link if you need it, as well as advise on installing it because they're kind of low on documentation.

uh, oh. You are planning to catch back up and pass me again. I guess I will have to go get another CPU to keep in competition with you.

I wish! ;-) I did a 100 day forecast on Overclockers and you are still in the lead by far according to that. On the other hand, I did bring this dual processor's second processor online last night. En guarde!

"The default skin.ini file had no entry for that value..."
Found it in the options settings - it now has the daily total in the box - yippee, I've created my 1st skin.

How do I add another machine to the EM? I'm at a loss here.

When you open the EM window, as shown in my screenshot above, look in the top left corner for the microscope icon - that's the option button, and when you click on it, it will bring up an options window. There, you will see 2 white boxes, the top one shows the path to your FAH folder, and the bottom one will have the name you called your FAH client (Box Name) when you configured EM. (If you didn't name it then, the lower box will be empty.) The buttons at the bottom to add or delete another FAH client, but they are grayed out until you click on the box name (lower box).
How to add another client to EM:
- If you didn't name your FAH client, click the check box (put in check mark) for the path in the upper box, then type a name in the Box Name field at the bottom, then click the 'save editing button' at the bottom. That name will now show up in the lower box.
- Now save and exit, then re-open the options window.
- Next, in the 3 fields at the bottom, enter the CPU info, Box name, and Box path (to the 2nd FAH client).
- When you enter the path, the 'Add a Box' button will light up and you can click it. It will auto save and exit, leaving you at the EM window.
- If the second client isn't showing in the EM window, then click the icon at the top right that looks like a notepad. That is called the 'view change' button and will allow you to see several systems at once.
That's all there is to it. Good Luck.

"The two I am running are HUGE!"
LOL - I know the feeling. On slower systems like mine, they take DAYS to complete, not hours.
But it all averages out to pretty good progress, so I don't mind.

Man, these last 4 spots to get to #199 are agonizing. We should be at #199, sometime late tommorrow afternoon, looking at the overtake chart. Has everyone else noticed, how quiet things have gotten over on the DU board, since they've started to encounter the hill? Also, for some light comical reading, check out the

I've been getting "Checksums don't match" errors again...this time with a really big job that I may not get to finish. Every time my computer crashes, it starts me back at zero again.

"Man, these last 4 spots to get to #199 are agonizing. We should be at #199, sometime late tommorrow afternoon,,,"
Agonizing, indeed. I can't help get us under 200 by tomorrow. Both of my systems are working on the same protein: Protein: p2107_lambda_5way_melt_4_10011 ---- it has 10,000 frames - aaarrrrgh, even at 1 frame per minute, that's over 2.5 days to complete - and I have 2 of the slower systems on our team, LOL.
The good news is that when one does finish, it's worth 404 points - that's 808+ points over the next 7 or 8 days. Guess I'm just impatient, heheh.

my laptop is ... overheating
I set my laptop to run folding at 75% and it stopped smelling like cooked plastic.
To: Fortyfied
My laptop has been overheating even with F@H off. So I run it only when I can attach an external fan. My other box, an AMD700 will no longer boot with a PCI card, so no network unless I attach a USB, but even that freezes up after a few minutes.
Slimmer chances for better boxes as of late.

How do I lower the percentage? My laptop gets a little hot, too. right click on the red "flower" > Configure > Advanced then set the CPU %
Caution...except for some laptops and real dusty old machines...most of us DON'T need to reduce this %. Doing so will slow down your results. Ask if you are having problems, and we will tell you how to check the CPU temp. It's not a beginner step IMHO.

"How do I lower the percentage?"
If you are running Windows:
- Find the red flower in the system trey (lower right corner of the screen, next to the time).
- Right click on it and select 'configure' from the pop-up menu.
- Click on the advanced tab at the top of the configuration window.
- Slide the slider 'CPU usage percent' too the left to lower the percentage.
If you are running Linux: (I barely know Linux, so there may be a better way)
- Using a plain text editor, edit the config file with the proper CPU usage percent & save it.
- Stop the service.
- Re-start the service.
Hope that helps.
