February 20, 2006 -- IT'S exactly 100 days until Katie Couric's contract on the "Today" show expires and NBC seems to be preparing for bad news.
Two news leaks over the weekend indicate that Katie is ready to leave the show to take over the anchor desk at "CBS Evening News."
First, TV Guide reports that Nat alie Morales has moved to the top of the replace ment list if Katie bolts to CBS.
Morales is close to signing a long-term deal with the network, which would move her out of MSNBC, where she's been a daytime anchor since 2002, to become a "full-time correspondent" for "Today."
Meanwhile, the authoritative trade magazine Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that "NBC lawyers have told Couric's agent, CAA's Alan Berger, 'not to put us through hoops' . . . if Couric doesn't really plan to stay."
According to the magazine, Katie has already begun talking to several close and trusted colleagues "hypothetical, what-if" conversations, it called the talks about coming with her if she jumps.

Many thanks, DH: hadn't seen this.
I have to admit that I'm rooting for Katie to stay, since she's been my liberal media bias bread-and-butter for so long!
Not if she's the one who chooses the book.
There's a typo in the post. The correct spelling is "Perqi Qati al-Khouriq."
poor shark
Staurt Smally has an opening for a receptionist.
It sounds the same as: "Sore mouth ready to lose bad tooth"
Have you guys seen the new Enquirer before and after plastic surgery on the cover? LITERALLY, my kids got frightened of her before. JEEZ!
Katie Couric doing 'serious' news.
ROFLMAO!
Don't let the door hit you on the butt on your way out - Katie. Oh, and maybe if you fail at the evening news - we'll be rid of you forever.
WOOHOO!
And in so doing, her typical daily audience will drop from a few million to a few thousand.
But that won't bother her, just as long as the CBS paychecks keep clearing.
Well put, HGC.
Additional proof that crap flows downhill.
Well, she can always join DJ Roberts at CNN.
Couric is moving because she doesn't want to be a "perky, morning talk show host." She wants to be "important." She is at a point where money is not the issue. She wants to be remembered in the same thoughts as Edward Murrow, Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings. Even though to most of us, those guys are just propaganda mouthpieces, in her circle, they're giants.
Have the networks not figured out that half hour network news programs are on the way out? People get their news on the fly these days, either from cable all day news or the internet. Who wants to sit through thirty minutes of propaganda anyway.
If this happens, I predict that Couric will be the last news anchor at CBS News ever.
They will eventually realize that nobody is watching and shut the division down.
They'll blame it on the audience and on Fox News.
politics asside.. I can see her wanting to get some normal sleeping hours with a couple kids to raise
