I'm not a Catholic and I don't worship Mary as a diety. The reason being, I can't find Bible authority for such a thing. But as Christianity as a whole is under attack in our country and has been for a long while, I'm thrilled to see that there are people who can see what is wrong with that type of attack. I'm thrilled to see an example of someone in the media at large admitting that sensitivity to Christian feelings might be in order at times. And I fully understand that anyone who believes that Mary is an object of worship would see that as blasphemy.
If there can be any such thing as decency laws in a democracy, which I think there can be, those laws ought to reflect what it is that offends the majority, in our case most of what Hollywood does to denigrate Christianity.

Dear fromscratchmom,

"I'm not a Catholic and I don't worship Mary as a diety."

Well, then you could be a Catholic! We Catholics don't worship Mary as a diety, either. Or even as a deity!

;-)

"People who can see what is wrong"

I think you're giving them far too much credit. SBS' attempt at moral equivalency is deplorable.

Were it not for "the current worldwide controversy over cartoons of religious figures", this episode would have been aired as scheduled. IOW, they have no more respect for Christianity than before (note reaction to the archbishop). The freedom they enjoyed derived directly from Christians not engaging in deadly demonstrations, $1M bounties on artists, open threats to further murders and world domination, etc.

The Left's leader, BJ Clinton, has declared that the Danish cartoon artists should be convicted. What logical extrapolations should his followers derive from that?

To find cover for their cowardice toward muslim response, SBS has chosen to extend their self-censorship to their anti-Christian lampooning. Such skewed, self-interested behaviors will not help the good guys win the coming culture war.

I hope you don't mean to suggest Catholics "worship Mary as a diety," because it's not true.

Our Constitution was partially created to protect the rights on the minority against the tyranny of the majority.

We are a Republic, not a mobocracy. I have just as much right to burn a bible as you do to boycott me for doing so.

(pssst... we don't worship the Virgin Mary. What confuses people is that we believe that those who are in heaven are alive and that we can talk to them and ask them to pray for us. And we don't have to if we don't want to.)
