Thanks so much for the ping. I might never have known about this if it wasn't for you. I am very, very interested in seeing what the guy has and hearing some of these concerts.
I am also interested in the old TV show from the mid-70's, "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert". That is where I first saw the Eric Burdon Band perform as well as seeing Leslie West put on a great show. All acts performed live with no lip-syncing or dubbing. Anyone know anything about this?

I saw Led Zepplin live at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh in 1972. Not one of the best shows I have seen. It took them four songs to get warmed up, but after that they improved.
Bob Seger was much better. So were a lot of other shows I have seen.

Hi, Scott. Went to the link you provide and connected. Hot Tuna playing now from a live performance at Winterland on the last day of 1969. Jorma Koukenen and Jack Cassidy.
Pretty neat!

I am also interested in the old TV show from the mid-70's, "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert". I remember "DK's rock concert", but IIRC it was always recorded in a studio. Do you remember "In Concert" that only lasted a couple of years? They would just set up some mics, cams and film a concert then edit it down to 60 or 90 mins.

I sure do remember it. "In Concert" was on the same years as Don Kirshner's show and was its competition.
A few years ago I tried to find out if video tapes of the "Rock Concert" shows were available. All I found out was some info about Don Kirshner.

I went to a number (15ish) of these free concerts as a yout. They were taped in a theater in Long Beach (mebbe Santa Monica?), CA. I managed a record store at the time so we got VIP passes from the label reps so the seats were great. Much fun for free but *very* long time between acts. Typical time in the theater was about ten hours.
Of all the acts I saw the person that impressed me most was James Brown.

James Brown. The Godfather of Soul and for a long time one of the hottest acts in the Soul Music business.
"Papa's Got a Brand New Bag". YEEOOOOWWW! HUH!

And it looks like we are not the only ones interested in the archives. From your link:
The show was great because of the artists, venues, and it was *live*! I wonder if the archives are available.

"Midnight Special" sucked compared to "In Concert" and "Rock Concert".

I wonder if the archives are available. everything I'm finding is indicating that it IS NOT currently available. I have to run out for the afternoon, but when I get time later I'll try digging up more info. I'll certainly keep you posted

"...persuaded then-owner Clear Channel to sell him the entire archive for "somewhere between $5 million and $6 million." [snip]
The warehouse itself is a rock history buff's dream. Three floors are lined with shelves, which are stacked full of boxes of posters, pristine tickets for the Fillmore West and Fillmore East shows, postcards, T-shirts and original photographic negatives. Sagan estimates there are more than 20 million individual pieces here.
Bargain priced if you ask me. The negatives, posters, and recordings have got to be worth a good deal. Only issue is who owns the rights to the images on those negatives and the music on those recordings.

Here is a link to a NPR interview with the guy behind the site...
Click on the listen here ....
Its about 9 minutes long but it is very interesting.
Apparently a lot of the bands signed releases on the original contracts so it is legal to circulate the music.
It really is an incredible site--
