Openness is for other people.
In the wake of the Cheney flap in which the MSM vented its fury over the Veep's failure to disclose facts rapidly enough to suit their taste, and in where even dark cover-up theories were floated, it seems more than a little ironic that an MSM icon has refused to reveal her age, even though that fact was very relevant for the story she was covering.
Barbara Walters has been guest-hosting on Good Morning America this week, and this morning conducted a segment on an index that has been developed that with good accuracy predicts the likelihood of death within four years for people 50 and older.
Walters' guest was GMA Medical Contributor Dr. David Katz. The good doctor had run the index on Barbara, and the happy news is that she is very likely to be with us for some time to come.
But there was one small snag in the doctor's work. He mentioned that Walters had refused to state her age, and that he was forced to estimate it! Now naturally, in predicting the likelihood of surviving the next four years, one's starting age is highly relevant. Even the healthiest octagenarian's odds aren't as good as a 60-year old's.
But Walters was adamant, As the doctor said, Walters had provided him with her relevant life-style information, but not her age, chiding her:
"You're pretty good at covering it up."
Affair of state? Hardly. But surely an ironic MSM double-standard on disclosure.
GMA/NewsBusters ping to Today Show list.
could you add me to the newsbusters ping?
Barbara Walters Date of Birth: 25 September 1931. There's another reference out there that has it at 1929.
What's the big deal?
Helen Thomas will get right on it.
Barbara Walters was born on September 25, 1931.

According to IMDB, she's 74.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0910181/
She's 110. Everybody knows it.
If you drive past the studios where they tape 'The View' you can get a glimpse of the tanker trucks that deliver the Vaseline that is smeared on all camera lenses.
Barbara Walters' biographies usually give her date of birth as September 25, 1931. Researchers studying census records dispute this. They say that the 1930 Federal Census for the Enumeration District 41-184 shows her family on page 198, with father Louis Walters aged 34, wife Dena Walters, aged 33, Jacqueline, daughter, aged 3 years and 11 months, and Barbara, aged 6 months. This was recorded on April 21/22, 1930, so Barbara would have been born around October 1929. This is consistent with her conventionally reported birthdate of September 25, 1931, minus 2 years.
Isn't she married to John Warner of Virginia?
Old as dirt.

A double standard in the so called MSM. Oh come on! You can turn off the sarcasm now!
The same media that claims to care about openness and full disclosure won't publish some cartoons either.
I'm really trying to get the irony of this situation, but I can't seem to get my arms around it.
How does a woman not wishing to state her age compare to the veep accidently shooting someone?
Wow, that's an old photo.
Good catch - you would have thought the enterprising Dr. Katz should have been able to do the same thing!
She's 143, what's the big deal?!
