Didn't Dunkin' Donuts win some award as having the best-tasting coffee?

I remember the slogan for Steak N' Shake, where they had huge plate glass windows right in front of the grille where anybody could walk right up and watch the food being prepared, the resulting slogan?
"In sight, it must be right"
Now these goons at Dunkin Donuts?
Unspeakable.

They were just following an old Jesse Jackson tradition, he admitted doing the same thing.

I used to hang out at this diner in Chicago where you could see the cooks working in the kitchen. Caught one of them picking his nose while cooking.

years ago, I worked at a restaurant for about 6 years. word to the wise- DO NOT be rude to your server. I saw things done to food that was shameful.

When did Cape Cod become Rio de Janeiro North? The "new Americans" can be found anywhere!
We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.
Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.
For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.
As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
You can read the speech here.
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. That's good advice that I live by. If you're going to complain about your server, wait until after the food is served and don't pay by credit card.

It isn't only the server to worry about. Usually in restaurant life, the cooks and servers get pretty tight. I saw cooks do some nasty things when servers would go back and complain.

There is actually a longtime Portuguese community in parts of New England - CT, MA, RI. I'm not sure how many generations back they go.

I guess that's why I prefer cooking my own food, mostly on my outdoor gas grill. That way I'm the only one handling the goods.
The gas grill method isn't foolproof though. One time I had pork chops cooking and turned off the grill to take a quick call inside. When I came back out the chops were gone... nowhere to be seen. After a minute or two I found the culprit, my labrador retriever. He swiped them off a hot grill... now that's determination!

When I do eat out, I have a strong preference for places with open kitchens.
