Word For The Day, Thursday, February 16, 2006 - pixilated
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pixilated \PIK-suh-lay-tud\ adjective
1 : somewhat unbalanced mentally; also : bemused
2 : whimsical
Example sentence:
In 1998, Julie Taymor won a Tony Award for her original, pixilated costume and puppet designs that gave life to Disney's The Lion King on the stage.
Etymology: "Pixilated" is an American coinage that dates back to about the mid-19th century. A pixilated person behaves as if under the spell of pixies or enchanted by them. The word has been used to describe people who are confused (as though they have seen a pixie) or intoxicated (to the point that they are seeing pixies); it can also be used for people who are like playfully mischievous pixies themselves. Today, "pixilated" usually means "somewhat unbalanced mentally," "bemused," or "whimsical." Additionally, it has fairly recently begun popping up in the digital realm as a word describing an image (as on a computer or television screen) that is made up of a large number of pixels. This recent usage, which we are monitoring for entry in our dictionary, is also commonly spelled "pixelated."

The behavior of the pixilated press and other media on July 20, 1969 vs. February 13, 2006.
i.e. Where was that natural journalistic curiosity when Teddy the Swimmer drowned a young woman, then vanished for 2 days? Teddy had the mental capacity to phone political operatives and associates - but not one call to the local constabulary or paramedics. Was no one the least bit interested??
Discuss amongst yourselves.
"Would this incident be more serious if Mr. Whittington had died?"
[and these are the best/brightest "journalists" in the nation?]
OH, my mother who voted for the goodlooking charismatic Kennedy brothers (rme), without even knowing what they stood for, knew every seedy detail of teddy's escapades. She even wanted to go there on vacation to see where Mary Jo died. My mother was MORTIFIED. She would have never voted for another kennedy. The media must have printed enough at the time for her to keep informed. She and her friends knew every detail......and they were more than disgusted with him. I would say it was the talk of the town.
He is such a crybaby. He wouldn't last a minute in your chair. A for you.
A for you. I despise all things Kennedy from MA. I'm descended from a more honorable line of them. On the Newfie line.
Really? That is just so sad....
