Word For The Day, Thursday, February 16, 2006 - pixilated

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

pixilated • \PIK-suh-lay-tud\• adjective
1 : somewhat unbalanced mentally; also : bemused
2 : whimsical

Example sentence:
In 1998, Julie Taymor won a Tony Award for her original, pixilated costume and puppet designs that gave life to Disney's The Lion King on the stage.

Etymology: "Pixilated" is an American coinage that dates back to about the mid-19th century. A pixilated person behaves as if under the spell of pixies or enchanted by them. The word has been used to describe people who are confused (as though they have seen a pixie) or intoxicated (to the point that they are seeing pixies); it can also be used for people who are like playfully mischievous pixies themselves. Today, "pixilated" usually means "somewhat unbalanced mentally," "bemused," or "whimsical." Additionally, it has fairly recently begun popping up in the digital realm as a word describing an image (as on a computer or television screen) that is made up of a large number of pixels. This recent usage, which we are monitoring for entry in our dictionary, is also commonly spelled "pixelated."

Come say Happy Birthday to our Chef du Jour, Lone Palm!

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

Is there anything more frightening than a pixilated shrillary?

Good Morning!

Rising, shining, and departing for work.

Because they're so indoctrinated,
Or maybe just innebriated,
If ever there is a poison pill,
The ones who've supported Hillary will,
Report that they have Pix-Hill-Ate-It.

(Boy, that's shoddy workmanship. Please excuse the brown paper and the crayon.)

John Kerry and his pixilated wife should copyright any footage from his 2004 campaign.Their endevour was a comedy montage that rivals that of Monty Python, Mel Brooks and the Keystone Cops..

I need to get all my old photos scanned and pixilated so I can store them on the computer, and post some online!

With American Idol, I'm fascinated
As contestants find out if they're stardom-fated
For the rejects, it's tough
They stalk off in a huff
But it's nice to see positive picks, elated

Morning!

The rhetoric of the 'rat party
Has really become outdated
And shows that most of it's members
Are out of touch and pixilated

Fat Ted is still a nasty drunk-
His posturing and his clowning
Have always been obnoxious
And even caused a drowning

And queen Hillary still stubbornly blames
The VRWC for everything that's wrong-
Either she's gone totally paranoid
Or else she's hitting the bong

I've got to hurry to work-back later...

In the article they are gushing about the likeness to her heiness......when I saw it I thought it looked similar to her, but they softened the face some to make her more attractive. The article is a bunch of drivel.
