Welcome to the new FreeRepublic folding@home thread. The previous thread has gotten too large, so we move on to yet another.

While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's 250+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 241st place, having moved up from 1200th place, a week earlier, and is now in the top 100 teams, for daily contributions.

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

Does that mean that those 25 are back folding in the folding camp?

If so, that's awesome news!! We may hit 50,000 points/day on a regular basis going forward.

Yeah, they're all back folding again. I've been wondering, where about 40 cpu's have gone, if you look at the 7 day total, and the 50 day total. I know where a few of them have gone.

1 was a laptop, that lost it's LCD panel, and was used for parts. 2 were old NT servers, that got replaced, and taken out to pasture. 4 were Laptops, that got checked out to employees, so FAH was removed, and 8 were Dual processor servers, that I knocked FAH down to 1, instead of 2 instances, to keep the primary CPU free.

But damn, if for the life of me, I couldn't figure out where 25 went, but that was an obscure lab, pretty reliable, and never really thought of, until something breaks.

Looking at the graphs, however, it looks like a giant zigzag stitch.

Love those graphs. Look at that trend line, we are really smokin' them now.

One minor gripe, can we be the red team?

I go by the old-style color scheme, the red team is the commies.

Well... I wonder if anyone on that side, will consider that a single user, counts 10:1 in their "higher number of new users" that they're so proud of touting.

You know, I thought of that, there is someone over there that talks about a 'Mo' team, which is her, husband, son, etc. etc. I went and downloaded some lists from our team and theirs, and started clicking on them to see how many CPUs were associated with team names. But, I lost interest about halfway through. I have a feeling that at least half of our member list has more than 1 CPU associated with the member, and probably 1/3 to 1/4 of them do...

I definitely agree that we shouldn't give the blue to the 'Rats who are at least pinko if not solid red. It's an egregious example of LSM bias.

The CPU count can easily be wacko as I'm finding out now that I'm sneaker netting WUs around to whatever machine I'm on at the moment. WUs can be run off a thumb drive and carried with or left behind on a HD to stop by and pick up later.

I just looked at the Dummies new member list, and there is foldmenow, foldmenow2, foldmenow3, foldmenow5, foldmenow6 foldmenow5, foldmenow10 - Idiots don't know about having more CPUs per member help you climb the internal point ladder quicker - their whole life is consumed with the thought of beating us FReepers, either in total points (not going to happen) or number of members (I'll take my 4 CPUs and give them all separate names if neccessary) Can you imagine "Klutz_Dohanger_209")

I know. I'm constantly trying to go back, and delete work folders, and restarting new work units, every tiime one of my macines gets ghosted, or else, it's going to be spinning wheels for 20 days or so, until the server figures out, that it's a duplicate work unit, and time to issue another.

I just wish, there was something, on Stanford's web site, that would list the active/inactive machines, so someone with a herd of them, could see at a glance, which ones aren't active for whatever reason.

I have some funds in an account, that I am unable to get access to, via normal means.

I see you haven't yet reeled in any marks from FR, but don't despair. Just fish in a few different ponds. Those dimwitted, gullible, computer illiterates employed by Microsoft, Apple, and Google also fell for the "protein folding" scam, so...

On a more serious note, thanks for your enormous contribution to this extremely worthwhile project.

DUmmies are projected to be in the Top 350 in 30 days

http://fahstats.com/tsum.php?t=48157

As for the 10 or so Foldmenow usernames, they are probably just trying to beat us at the number of active users - DUmmies :)

Congrats to Malsua for being only the second FReeper folder to amass 100,000 points!

Now to outscore the DUmmies all by yourself!

Ya' know, if one were so inclined to...uh..."tilt" the stats, one could easily finish a wu, change the name, then finish that one and, change it again. Then every, oh, 5 days or so, rotate them all over again. :)

Can you imagine if Malsua or Klutz or someone with a gazillion boxes did that? LOL

Those dimwitted, gullible, computer illiterates employed by Microsoft, Apple, and Google also fell for the "protein folding" scam, so...

I'll sell them, my pamphlet, "how to succeed at folding", for $1 each + Postage and handling, and let me see, since there are about at least 4 of them out there, gullible enough to send me the buck... " I might have enough for a 6-pack of Busch light, by the weekend, if Sav-a-center keeps it on sale.

Damn, I was gonna give you a wisenheimer remark, but you were dead on with that. But, I'd like to see that faux titanium vest. I think I have the perfect pair of boots that would match it

With age, comes wisdom. Not only was I raised by one, I had to endure growing up with several, and then not learning my lesson, married several (one at a time, of course...) Trust me, Grasshopper, that shopping gene, is bigger than your extra Y chromosome, or whatever it is, that makes your kind, an entirely separate (tho not intolerable) species.... :) Now, exactly what sort of boots, would match, a faux titanium hunting vest? Would Fur lining, and buckle ties, be too gauche?

Would say, 50 new members a day, suit you...?

Just kidding, but it would certainly kill one of their "we're catching up" stats...
