Welcome to the new FreeRepublic folding@home thread. The previous thread has gotten too large, so we move on to yet another.
While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's 250+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 241st place, having moved up from 1200th place, a week earlier, and is now in the top 100 teams, for daily contributions.
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

I know how you feel...The funny thing is how infectious "folding" is. I check stats from work. I look to see if there are other 'puters I can borg at my wife's work. I read the Fry's ads and dream about upgrading. I have no life.
Well done, K_D!!
You are on your way to 1,000,000 points and there are less than 400 users who have reached that incredible milestone!
It makes us extremely happy that you are also folding for our team!
We're #30 overall based on today's points:

For some reason, I've not delivered hardly any WUs for a couple days. Houston we have a problem. Heh. I suspect another power outage. Won't know till Tuesday. Also may have have firewall issues, potentially beyond my control. Hope not.
I may not hit my 100k milestone for months at this rate ;)
Ok, strike my prior message somewhat...I dropped 1380 points in the 3pm round-up. Must have picked up some 36ish hour ones. One of the hot-rods under my desk at home here was stuck and needed reboot(been out of town for a few days). I still think we had a power out, a number of mine need attention in a power failure to boot to the proper OS. I won't get to them till Tues.
He's ahead of me, not behind me.
The way I look at that, HE has the competition.... :)
That's the problem, when you're trying to shepard a herd.
You get accustomed to steady output, get complacent, and then the next thing you know.... your output plummets.
*scratches head* Now who turned off that power strip.... :)
I was essentially away from my flock since Thursday and I get this:
I'm like WTF?!?. The first big dip was a power outage over the "blizzard", this dip is probably due to power outage over the "cold snap"(which froze a pipe under my kitchen #$%^!!)
Like I said earlier, call me Mo for short. [:-)
"I'm gonna get a little more serious about this."
Congrats, guys - I'm happy to see that you are getting serious about folding.
Now, if we could only convince that slacker, Klutz Dohanger, to get serious, too. LOL
;^D
I just got a 5000 frame project! It's a GROMACS core.
I've completed 5 project since last week, they've been 500 frames. Are projects like this one common? I've done 80 frames since this morning.
sorry guys. Next month, I'll really try harder.
Yes... with a reasonable computer (cpu strength), Gromacs code is the best of the three. Fewer points, per workunit, but a pentium IV can crank out a completed workunit, every 12-36 hours, depending on how you use the PC.
Eventually, FAH will move to nothing but Gromacs, but there are a lot of Tinkers and Ambers that still have to be processed, before they can close those projects down.
You won't score near as many points with a Gromacs, but you'll click them out, at a steady pace, which, depending on your CPU, puts you ahead of the game.
Nothing, is agony, like watching a G3/G4 mac, or an old PIII get ahold of a Tinker.... It's worse than pulling teeth.
I had a tinker last week. I was getting 7 mins, 40 secs a frame.
This Gromacs code is 36 secs a frame.
I didn't know that. I guess, the sooner we get through all those Tinkers, the better for everyone :)
