Nano fans sore over scratches

New lawsuit asks Apple to replace all affected iPod units

Matthew Yi, Chronicle Staff Writer

Saturday, February 11, 2006

Apple Computer Inc. is facing yet another lawsuit that alleges that the colorful screen on the popular iPod Nano music player is prone to scratches that make the display unreadable.

"This is marketed as a beautiful, sleek device, which it is, but that feature is completely gone after a few weeks of using it," said Harvey Rosenfield, an attorney who filed the latest complaint late Thursday in San Mateo County Superior Court.

"If (Apple chief executive) Steve Jobs can pull it out of his pocket, we should be able to pull it out of our pockets without it being ruined," he said.

The suit, which is seeking class-action status, wants Apple to recall and replace all affected iPod Nanos.

The Invisible Shield thing was a mess to apply. I must have a bazillion air bubbles under there....:))

Screen protectors definitely seem to be a you-get-what-you-pay -for proposition. The dozen for $15 pack were adequate for my cell phone screen, but I had to get one of the good Boxwave ones to protect my PDA screen without air bubbles all over the place (part of the problem is that the PDA screen is in a recess, making it a real bitch to apply a cover without buckling it).
