Gillette Welcomes the Future of Shaving with the Introduction of Fusion (FIVE BLADED RAZOR)
Business Wire ^ | Tuesday February 7, 2006

Posted on 02/11/2006 11:24:24 AM PST by presidio9

Gillette today announced that the new Gillette Fusion and Fusion(TM) Power shaving systems for men are now available in stores. The new razors offer breakthrough technologies, including a 5-blade Shaving Surface(TM) on the front of the blade cartridge and a Precision Trimmer(TM) blade on the back. The Shaving Surface distributes force across the blades, resulting in a smoother, more comfortable shave with less irritation. The Precision Trimmer, a single blade on the back of the shaving cartridge, makes it easier for men to shave hard-to-reach areas, including sideburns and under the nose.

Consumer testing among hundreds of men revealed that Gillette Fusion and Fusion Power razors outperform the leading manual and power razors - Gillette MACH3Turbo and M3Power. Men preferred Gillette Fusion over Gillette MACH3Turbo by a margin of 2-to-1, and Gillette Fusion Power was favored over Schick Quattro Power by a nearly 3-to-1 margin.

"We are confident that people will appreciate the increased shaving closeness and comfort they experience when using new Gillette Fusion and Fusion Power," said Peter K. Hoffman, President, Global Grooming, Procter & Gamble. "These innovative razors truly represent the next level in shaving."

"Face of Fusion" Contest

To help introduce the new razors, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, stars of the hit television show, "American Idol," kicked off a nationwide casting call in New York City for the "face" of Gillette Fusion. Gillette, in conjunction with Ford Models, will visit 9 cities across the U.S. to select a representative "face" for the new razor.

The national winner will receive a 12-month modeling contract with Ford Models, a 2006 Dodge Charger and the chance to appear in an upcoming Gillette Fusion ad.

Ford Models' scouts will attend each event as guest judges to help Gillette find its "Face of Fusion." More information about the events, including tour dates and prize details, is available at www.faceoffusion.com.

The "Face of Fusion" contest will take place in 9 cities this spring, including:

-- Friday, March 10 Dallas, TX -- Friday, March 17 Houston, TX -- Friday, March 31 Miami, FL -- Friday, April 7 San Antonio, TX -- Friday, April 21 Phoenix, AZ -- Friday, April 28 San Diego, CA -- Friday, May 5 Atlanta, GA -- Friday, May 19 Memphis, TN -- Friday, May 26 Cincinnati, OH

The Gillette Fusion razor with two cartridges will retail for approximately $9.99, and the Fusion Power razor with one cartridge and a AAA Duracell battery will retail for approximately $11.99. A 4-pack of refill cartridges for Gillette Fusion will retail for approximately $12.00 to $13.00, and a 4-pack of Fusion Power cartridges will retail for approximately $13.00 to $14.00. Retail prices are at the sole discretion of individual retailers.

This sounds like that old Mad TV skit. I didn't think it would ever really happen.

And the great early SNL skit about a three-blader (which didn't exist at the time). The punchline was, "Because you'll believe anything".

The Fusion is better than the Quatrro in my opinion. I wonder if the moonbats are still accusing Gillette of "tracking" people?

You could use alcohol to clean the baldes. Just rinse the blade before use. You might want to try Lumene Skin tech shaving creme.

I use the Quattro too.....however, I find the prices of refill catridges to be outrageous.

I have the same problem with the Quattro on facial hair than is longer than a 2-day old stubble.

The blades are expensive, you're right. Still, when I take my time and extra rinse, and when the blade is sharp, the quattro gives me a hell of a smooth shave! You get what you pay for, sometimes! :-)

Does the marketing department get their ideas from jokes? 5 blades? I wasn't sure if this was a gag commercial or not. The Mach 3 is bad enough (I hope they aren't phasing it out).

When the commercial came on, one of my friends remarked that the next step will be to have a mask you wear that shaves your whole face in one instant. He may not be wrong with the way things are going.

Personally I'm waiting for the 50 blader one that mounts on the wall and you just rub your face on it and hope you come away with skin left to use.

All these dumb gimmicks are going to lead to a resurgence in the full beard. Gillette helped to make the Roman clean-shaven look in, and they'll help to kill it too.

This thread is making me feel so inferior for still using a two-bladed razor. The original Sensor was the best razor ever made. Now you usually can't find it, because retailers prefer to stock the "Sensor Excel" which costs more. The Excel has this idiotic strip of rubber at the bottom which I think is supposed to give you a closer shave, but actually makes things worse. That strip of rubber adds an extra $4 to a box of 15 for some reason. Whenever I see a box of originals, I buy them the way Elaine Benes buys Today Sponges.

Enough already. Let's introduce the 100-blade razor and get it over with.

I use Schick myself - and refuse to try the 4 blade model. 3 is plenty for my tough beard.
I prefer Wilkinson-Sword as the best blades ever. But they are hard t find here.

Does anyone still use injector shavers? I liked them; but its all click-on/click-off blades now.
