Get rid of Norton and get Trend Micro, PC-cillen 2003 it's free and comes with a free firewall that is very effective.
Use that in conjunction with Adware Personal and Trend Micro House call and you will stay clean.
Also download reg cleaner so the bad guys don't mess with your registry.
I LOVE FR
Re: Trend Micro, PC-cillen 2003
Thanks...
My sister started having problems after upgrading to Norton 2006. She tried system restore and it wouldn't work. After removing Norton everything returned to normal.
Thank you Jellybean. I have uninstalled and re-installed Norton about 15 times (for real) since this happened. I have three kiddos who use this computer. (We share one comuter on the main floor of the house so I know what they are doing.) So, who knows if it is Norton. They are always looking for games to load...grrrrr. Almost makes me want to let them have their own computers. I'm lost without my PC. At least I still have FR.
Try uninstalling Norton and then use system restore. Then go to http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desktop/pc-cillin/evaluate/overview.htm and download PC-cillin.
When I click on links for these URLs (http://yadayada.com), my computer:
a) ignores the fact that I clicked on anything
I don't usually bluff, but I am pretty good at poker.
Seems others are having problems after installing Norton 2006... http://www.cnet.com.au/software/security/0,39029558,40058040,00.htm (scroll down to reader's opinions).
BTW Woodstock download and istall Modzilla FireFox 1.5 and stop using IE. Your life will be much more peaceful.
As for active X controls, unstall them. They are just Microsoft spy ware that leaves you open to trojan attacks.
By uninstalling active X you will only lose access to a small number of site resources that you won't need anyway.
>Norton really hurt me when I upgraded to 2006.
Listen to what Microsoft MVPs (Most Valuable Professional) say about Norton product: Don't ever use them.
My links to download Firefox don't activate anything! I think I am screwed for now.
Try this link
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
If it doen't work empty temporary internet files in IE and reboot and try again.
Repeat daily as needed.
The "Texas Hold 'Em is calling" was just too ripe not to pick!
BTW - so far I'm in agreement with the:
Dump Norton - it's a dog
System Restore
You can also upgrade to IE 6.0.xxx, but personally, I use it only for sites that do not work with Netscape or Firefox.
Should you decide to go to Netscape, downlaod version 7.2 NOT version 8.x. They ruined it when they made that revision. All of the previous versions are available for free download.
What happens when you type in the URL directly to the address window, instead of clicking on the link?
Good luck! And remember we can't see your screen, so the better you describe exactly what happens, the better diagnostics can be provided.
