In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
sapient \SAY-pee-uhnt\ adjective
Wise, sage, discerning
Example sentences:
By actual measurement they are the brainiest of birds, and on subjective evidence they seem more sapient than most other living creatures.

He also gives much of the book over to the voice and point of view of Wyatt's bright, quirky Aunt Ellen, who functions as a sapient observer of the world of the novel..
-- Lorrie Moore, "God Does Not Love Aunt Ellen," New York Times, February 14, 1993
Etymology: Sapient comes from Latin sapiens, sapient-, present participle of sapere, "to taste, to have sense, to know."

that is a stunning portrait of you there at the end of marteen's thread.
Now I am old, like you!
3rd quarter of life, as my newbie engineer brat calls it.
I used to race these, but that is not me.
The 4 stages of life:
Birth, School, Work, Death
So he's there too, but has lots more work to look forward too.
I think that's my look-a-like German cousin. ;)
Isn't that Ted Kennedy's secretary?
I see her in her Matrix black leather ensemble, just looking at him with the patented Condi-Death-Stare, then slowly walking over to him and giving him a quick knee to the groin. As he bends over in pain, she simultaneously pushes down on the back of both his shoulders with her hands as she brings a knee to the bridge of his nose, and then sweeps his feet out from under him with a low roundhouse kick. Then, she plants the stiletto heel of her boot against his adam's apple, applies just enough pressure to get his attentions and says, "I'm sorry, I missed that comment because the President and I were laughing. Could you repeat that?"
On first reading, I passed right over "FLOTUS" seeing it as Lotus (flower) and thought you were talking about Laura Earl. Then I thought "I hope the Pope was not intimidated by CG's big guns."
Happy Birthday to Dain Bramage and Fierce Allegiance!
Easy mistake to make. Laura Earl IS a lovely person, just like the FLOTUS.
Which one is which?
And you were so close while growing up!
Have a great day on your birthday today!!!
I try to live my public life as if my dad is watching and I know what whe'd say about THAT! LOL!
Thanks, Gabz!
