Death Threats over Cartoons and the press quivers
Freerepublic | 2/08/06 | Westpole

Voltaire's stirring words seem so quaint now. "I may disagree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." These words summarized what our freedom was about. But the vast majority of the American press no longer believes this. For the defense of the freedom to critize radical Islam has come entirely from the blogosphere. The major television networks have only spoken in the most reverential tones of the offense to Islam from Danish newspapers. Why has our press abandoned the principal of freedom? Why do they not take offense at the death threats? Threats not only to journalists but even applying the same Islamofacist logic that there are no innocents, and declaring anyone from an offending country fair game for the most horrific retribution. What is most interesting about this entire episode is not so much what it says about the current state of Islam but what it says about us. We have always know there where totalitarian ideologies. We fought them and we mocked them. But no more. What has changed? Is it that that the press is so politically correct that when Islamics want to impose their censorship our press gives an understanding nod? Actually I wish it where that simple. The truth is something more disturbing is happening in American politics and its coming from the left. As the only remaining superpower, the left both at home and abroad has sought to diminish American power and influence. This is entirely driven by ideology that a robust, successful, free market America is not what the left wants for a world role model. So if American promotes freedom of speech well that isn't all that important anymore. If American promotes democracy well they rig elections both in the United States and in Iraq. And if America promotes the rule of law well its all a scam run by secret tribunals and directed by a president unresponsible to anyone but his own whim. Islamofascists are only the latest to attack us. The old Arab saying plays here, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

"Why has our press abandoned the principal of freedom?"

I can only assume you are a young pup. Most of the "press" are socialists at best.

Socialism doesn't lend itself to freedom.

Bill O'Reilly was 100 percent correct tonight.

For those of you who missed the show, Bill highlighted the fact that the NYT and other rags are refusing to post the Mohammed images in their pages.

He also highlighted the fact that the NYT is willing to print images of the Virgin Mary covered in dung and pornographic photos.

Bill's challenge to the NYT is why be so biased against Christianity? Why print images of the Virgin Mary covered in animal dung, but then REFUSE to print images of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban?

ANSWER: MORE DOUBLE STANDARDS FROM THE SCUMBAGS AT THE NY TIMES, AND HYPOCRISY FROM THEIR IDIOT APOLOGISTS.

What caught my attention was that the guest from Editor and Publisher agreed with Bill that the reason was that the papers were afraid, physically afraid, of the muslims.
