Herm lost a lot of speed from practice, 181.594 puts him 25th of 28 and 9th of 11 field-fillers. He'll need to finish as one of the top 2 field-fillers in his Duel or go home after the Busch race Saturday.

Agreed. Guess some of that sand got into Nesquik's engine. He blows up after a first lap of 180.890 (26th of 29, 10th of 12 field-fillers), so he'll have to come from the back of his Duel and finish as one of the top 2 field-fillers or go home after Thursday.

JJ takes the pole from Bobby Labonte (who is kicked into his "natural" 2nd Duel) and knocks Clint Bowyer off the front row and back into the 1st Duel with a 188.762. He would start the 1st Duel via points.

Hendricks is looking good. I hope Flash is not rattled by the delay unless it was a feature not a flaw...

FWIW - Bill Davis bio.

Davis grew up in Little Rock and as a boy his father took him to work on the weekends to jobsites for McConnell Heavy Hauling where the elder Davis supervised large rigging jobs. Then, as a successful young salesman in his early twenties, he wanted to follow his dreams to own and operate a fleet of refrigerated equipment. After an acquisition of two trucks, family friend Julian Martin of Batesville invited Davis to lease his trucks at JMI and learn the business of trucking.

Thus was the beginning of Bill Davis Trucking, Inc. As the years passed, equipment was slowly added, shops were built, offices enlarged and BDTI thrived.

Ironically, Davis' association with his father's long-time friend, Julian Martin, helped him achieve another lifetime goal. Martin's son, Mark, had begun his racing career and Davis often traveled to help on the crew. As the years progressed, both the young Martin and Davis succeeded in their chosen careers. In 1987, as Mark Martin ran the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series for Bruce Lawmaster, he and Davis collaborated via telephone from Greensboro, NC to Batesville, AR to build an ASA car. Bill Davis Racing was born.

Davis' High Point, North Carolina based Nextel Cup racing operation now encompasses the #22 Caterpillar Dodge and the #23 Dodge. In addition, Davis has the #22, #23 and #5 Toyota trucks in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Recognized throughout motorsports for having a keen eye for young driving talent, Davis has given several current NASCAR regulars including Martin, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte and his current drivers the support and quality equipment necessary to establish themselves in motorsports' toughest competitive leagues.

In 1991 Davis moved the racing operation to North Carolina and Gail, with the help of several devoted employees, continued the daily operation of Bill Davis Trucking. Although racing has become a major focus, the pride of ownership and love of trucks and trucking have motivated Davis to continue striving for perfection in a very tough business. "Julian Martin always said that if you were tough enough to make it in trucking, you could be successful in any business and I'm sure that has helped us make our businesses work," said Davis. "We've been able to expand both businesses, keep our trucking clients and our race-team sponsors happy, plus we've made some great friends and a lot of dreams have come true along the way."

It is sooooo good to be watching this as I look outside and see a foot of snow.

Riggs has a great attitude after a big disapointment.

Flash still working on going through inspection.

Randy LaJoie 22nd of 31 and 6th of 13 field-fillers with a 184.540. That puts Chad Blount in the "race well or go home Thursday" category.

We got caution on the track for Pierre De Bris. They're working in the tri-oval area.

With 10 field-fillers to go, these field-fillers are tentatively locked into the Daytona 500 - Bill Elliott, Travis Kvapil, Hermie Sadler, and Terry Labonte (he's actually guaranteed by being the most-recent Cup champ among the field-fillers).

We're green again, and JJ Yeley's out there.
