NFL should feel embarrassed

SEATTLE - And now a word about the officiating in Super Bowl XL. Two words actually.

It stunk.

The interference call, a push-off on Darrell Jackson that cost the Seahawks a first-quarter touchdown, was hideous.

If former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin hadn't been allowed to use his arm to get separation the innocent way Jackson did in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh, Irvin would have caught maybe 20 balls in his career.

And the fourth-quarter holding call on right tackle Sean Locklear that nullified a spectacular catch by tight end Jerramy Stevens at the Pittsburgh 1-yard line was equally egregious.

Why did it seem that the NFL wanted the Colts to win?

nope, never touched the other guy (he jumped over Hasslebeck probably figuring the QB couldn't make the tackle). like I said, maybe there is a clause of a subparagraph of a minor rule that allows this call, but I have never seen it called before. the refs seemed to look for any opportunity to insert themselves into the game.

I agree. The officiating stunk but it's time to move on. Seattle fans are starting to sound like Algore.

the refs seemed to look for any opportunity to insert themselves into the game. Whenever it favored the larger merchandise buying fanbase.

I'm not sure that they did. I don't think that bad officiating is the result of a grand conspiracy coming from the top. The Colts/Steelers game only had two bad calls. Inexplicably bad (one was a metaphysical impossibility, the other was clear by the replay and the ref still got it wrong) but only two nonetheless.

Forget Seattle!

I could care less about that latte sipping backwater. They're hardly die-hard gridiron fans... What about the REST of the playoffs? What a crock of shyt... it seemed like it was a "Days of Our Lives" script that got away from the directors - so they had to improvise.

Here's my two cents....

My favorite teams are in the NFC North Division, so my playoff interests disappeared quite rapidly. Maybe because of that, I watched only a few minutes of a few of the playoff games.

To me there was no drama in who won or lost. Of course, I must be on the outside looking in, because of the high viewer ratings the game got. ( I didn't watch the super bowl this year)

However, everyone I have talked to around here, CLEARLY believed that the Seahawks got robbed by the officials.

The NFL, like any other entertainer loves bad press. The bigger the bad-boy or flub-up, the more they can chat it up next year. The more they chat it up, the more people will tune in to watch to see if they will see a train wreck.

Personally, I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, or what, but the antics of the "ME-ME-ME" athletes on every team really is taking the joy out of watching it.

Oh, well, that's how I see it from the Midwest.

You'd have a point if I were a Hawk fan, or if JUST ABOUT EVERY SPORTSHOW wasn't talking about the fact that the Steelers were given a giftwrapped XL*

you are still only giving half of the story in terms of what Jim Rome said on the other thread....

But since it doesn't further your cause, I guess it doesn't count HUH?

It must really suck backing a losing team. And then trying to find solace with "we wuz robbed."

the calls were all righteous. And there were as many non-calls against the shehawks as there were calls that went the other way.

Or did you miss the obvious clip and the obvious holds?

Whining crybaby loser. The better team won. Get over it. You can post asterisks until the cows come home and they won't remember it in the future anymore than the Tuck Rule miscall that launched the Patriots.
