Wow- I really have a lot of respect for normal police officers, and despise a dirty cop even more than I do a terrorist...
Watching "The Shield" IS kind of like 'picking a scab' but I'm addicted to the darn show. Tonight's new episode was very intriguing, even moreso than usual.
Bunch of good actors in that show.
I just wish Vic and his team were completely honest. Other than being part time crooks, they are darn good cops.
Tonights show was even more intriguing than usual.... But the ending answered TOO many questions.
My first 'vanity post' Sorry about that.
I saw it - - awesome show.
The cast is simply outstanding.
I don't watch too many shows on a regular basis, but 'The Shield' is now on my "must see TV" list along with '24', and 'Monk'.
By the way, did you ever see the TV movie, 'The Three Stooges', that aired in 2000? I saw the movie again last year and after seeing many episodes of 'The Shield', it was truly hilarious seeing Michael Chiklis in the role of Curly.
I just started watching 24 this season, (due to recommendations by FReepers)..
That, The Shield and Las Vegas are about the only 'non-news' programs I watch regularly now. Monk is a kinda cute show, but I only watch occasionally.
It wouldn't be one-tenth the sho it is if they were.
The point of good drama isn't to show good role models, but to create situations in which conflict begins and builds to a climax. Watching a bunch of good cops would be nice, but it wouldn't be The Shield.
I saw it when it came out.... Didn't even realize it was him in that part. But I can see him in that part, strangely enough.
Only other thing I have seen him in (that I knew it was him) Was Fantastic Four... He made a darn good "Thing". (only bought that DVD because it has Jessica Alba in it. :-)
He is a darn good actor... In the 'real life' things (Interviews; 'behind the scenes' DVD special features from the F4 DVD etc.) I have seen him in, he seemed like a really sweet, polite and gentle guy.
Good darn writers on 'The Shield' too... Can't forget to give them credit too.
The thing that I don't like about TV shows that are based on dishonorable police officers, is they perpetuate the idea within society that there are LOT of crooked police officers. Yeah, there are all to many of them in real life.... But 90% of police officers are honest and doing a darn good job despite horrible working conditions.
I've run into a few, upon occasion, that I'd have like to have met in a dark alley, out of uniform, but the vast majority are great people who we, as a society owe a great debt.
Well, Lupus is pretty nasty, but I'm glad it isn't something worse. Excellent actress and great character...
I'm even starting to like "Dutch" who used to seem kind of a 'weenie'.
I can think of four, five people (including Vic) who wouldn't surprise me as being the baby's daddy, including that 'charming' street husltler from lass season.
Forest Whittaker has been SUPERB in everything I've seen him in, all the way back to "Good Morning Vietnam".
Jessica Alba - - I fell in love with her in 'Dark Angel', which was an amazingly prophetic show. I have recently seen and heard reports on the radio about a suspected Iranian scheme to explode a nuclear EMP in space over the United States.
Best scene this year - - Kavanaugh going ballistic.
Vic has himself a worth adversary, but you KNOW Vic will win.
'Monk' is my Friday night, easy-does-it, end-of-the-week diversion.
My younger son and I watch it and get a kick out of it.
Ditto. Perverted old guy that I am, She is one of my absolute favorites (with Alyssa Milano and a couple more 'young chicks'.) Dark Angel was one of the few 'broadcast' shows that I watched even back then. First season was superb, kinda got weird in the second season, but I still enjoyed it.
Remember that scene from a couple of years ago where Dutch comes home after a long bout of mind games in the interrogation room with that psychotic serial killer? Dutch picks up a stray cat in his driveway, strangles it to death, and just drops it at his feet because he wanted to see if he got any kind of thrill or satisfaction out of killing. THAT was one of the most disturbing things I ever saw on television.
That creeped me out AND made me mad.
But then, I actually like cats.
Kinda unusual, I'll admit, for a guy who goes 'gaga' over Jessica Alba, Alyssa Milano and Michelle Malkin; (but then, I never pretended to be a 'run of the mill' sort of guy.... (I also like some "Show Music too: make of that what you will.) ;-)
Well, "Dutch' was pretty good tonight, anyway.
As you say, most cops are nothing like this. Which is why it's an interesting show. I see him as a kind of negative role model, showing how NOT to do it, which is why it's interesting. If there were nothing but dirty cops on TV, the show wouldn't be nearly so compelling.
Yeah, I guess you are right.....
Since I never watch any of those Law & Order / CSI type shows I missed the 'strategic implications'.
Any thoughts on how the season finale will shake down? Lem looks hosed, question is will he turn evidence or become Antwon's bytch?
Not a clue. I wouldn't be surprised if Lem kills himself... (I thought it was about to happen last night).
I don't think I'll be too surprised however it turns out... But I imagine that the writers will be messing with our minds up to the very last 20 seconds. It will be very dramatic for sure.
