RUSH: Josh in Boise, Idaho. Josh, I'm glad you waited. You're up today. Nice to have you on the program.
CALLER: Mega dittos, Rush, from the Gem State.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: First of all I want to say congrats for your Pittsburgh Steelers last night.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: And I myself rooted for Seattle. The Super Bowl is what I wanted to talk to you about, actually. I wanted to beat some of those whiners from the e-mails that were going to read to the punch on this. You still there, Rush?
RUSH: Yeah, I'm still here.
CALLER: Oh, okay. All right. You know, I watched the game last night and I disagreed with a lot of calls but there is no way that the referees in any away influenced the outcome of the game -- and, you know, if I were Holmgren, I would be really insulted as a coach of the Seattle Seahawks that the fans would whine about the referee calling, and the reason why is I would say that the Seahawks didn't have any power to come back to the game, which I thought they put a up a really good fight -- and you know, the bottom line, Rush, is that Pittsburgh deserved to win. As a coach, I've always told my players and my parents to shut up to the referee; don't talk to the referee, and after the game I've never told them to come up with excuses leading to the idea that the referees had something to do with the outcome of the game.
RUSH: Here's the thing, though. I do think the NFL has an officiating problem. This post- season did feature some pretty disastrous calls that the league admitted to a day or two after games were played. But, you know, the old theory is they even out over the course of a season or over the course of two or three seasons, the human element and so forth. It's just I have never seen it before. E-mail today was just loaded with whining Seahawks fans about the officiating. I mean, every fan of every team can cite a big game that you've lost and the officiating didn't go your way, and it's the way of the world. It just the way it is.
I don't want to get into an in-depth game analysis here but I'll just say one thing. I saw some of the worst clock management on behalf of a professional football team in my life in that game last night by the Seattle Seahawks. I was stunned. They just seemed out of control, and when the game started, it looked like the Seahawks were going to own that game in the first quarter. I was really biting the nails.
Josh, I appreciate the phone call.
He was on his way to the ground, in other words stumbling. All it takes is a touch. (actually an attempted grab in this case). So I don't buy that argument.
But you can argue the other point about the interference. Weak call, but technically, OK.
That's when I shut the damn tube off. They tossed in the towel, down by 11. Yikes!
All that's missing is Don King.
There was NO excuse for that one.
If Don King is involved, he can manage the Seahawks. We don't want him.
It should have been a great game. Evenly matched, both hot as can be. Instead it looked almost preseason-ish.
I'm afraid your grade for that answer is only going to be a B+
You omitted the word Gross in your answer.
I still can't believe how the Hawks dominated the entire first half, yet were losing at the half 7-3. And the mighty Steelers couldn't get on track, couldn't get a first down for a long time.
I think the turning point was when Willie took the ball on the second play of the second half and went for a touchdown. Lifted the Steelers when they really needed it.
But the Hawks were never really out of the game until about the last three minutes or so. If Stevens would have held onto the ball, the Hawks might very well have won the game.
And even with the offensivee pass interference call that would have only given Seattle 14 points. No, that wouldn't have made much difference.
I heard a lot of people telling the Patriots fans to STFU about a pass interference call that was every bit as weak as the call made against the Seahawks receiver. Plays like that do change the game.
But, fumble the ball, miss FGs, throw interceptions and give up big plays and you can go home. The Steelers didn't get any charity points last night.
You know, 'ant, this is the first rational discussion I have had with anyone about the game since before it was over.
It is a pleasure talking to you. Thanks for being civil.
Stevens is a stillers double agent. LOL
Hmm. I actually don't think that is the case (I know for certain it is not the case in College). You have to be touched when a knee is "on" the ground. In this case we are speaking of Hasselback knees were clearly not on the ground.
I mean seriously how isn't every player down then while trying to cross the goal line and being touched?? - All those players are "touched" prior to their knees hitting the ground "while" they are "falling" forward.
Yet they "aren't" considered down UNTIL their knee touches the ground (or elbow) and thus many TD's are scored via this manner (falling into the end zone and having the ball cross the GL prior to their knee hitting the ground....THOUGH while being "touched" the entire time they are falling into the end zone).
And if they were hit during this falling period and fumbled (a la Bettis Vs the Colts) it is considered a fumble...not that he was down because he was touched and falling.
It was a sh*t call in favor of Seattle.
You sweet talker, you!
He was touched but he wasn't on the ground and the touch was not the reason why he hit the ground.
It was a fumble.
No way jose. He was not down until his knee hit, to be sure. Once that knee hits, even if you are only brushed slightly while falling, you're down. That is my story and I'm sticking with it.
The poor guy had a very bad game. I bet he was sick over his performance. Hard not to feel sorry for him.
Steelers dropped a few they should have caught. Ward made as good a catch as I've seen, including Swann's catch in the Super Bowl. Shoelace high and he had to reach out for it. I was sure he was going to drop it.
Hawks got burned on the fake end-around. I know that wasn't the coaches fault.
pass interference call 7 points
Stevens TD 7 points
Pass to the 1yrd line(holding call) 7 points
Subtract 4 from Pit for Bens TD(the kick a FG instead) Subtract the Randel El td because that play shouldnt have happened because Seattle should have had the ball at the 1yrd line. Even if you dont subtract ANY points from pit the score is 21-21
He should be sick.....and traded. LOL
Ben had a rough game, but came thru in the clutch just enough to win it.
