-Ratings Breakdown: Super Bowl XL: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Seattle Seahawks, as expected, owned Sunday, with a 41.8/62 in the overnights from 6:30-10 p.m. Comparatively, this was down by 4 percent in rating and one share points from last year's Philadelphia vs. New England match-up on Super Bowl XXXIX on Fox (43.4/63 on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005). Due to the live nature of Super Bowl XL, fast national results are excluded. Final nationals for The Super Bowl XL will be released by ABC this afternoon.

I was surprised my dad didn't hardly watch the game. He didn't really care for either team though.

One point down is not a change IMO.

The game was underwhelming though, I agree with you.

Not suprised. I left the club 9 minutes before the half yawning.

It could've been worse, it could have been a Carolina-Jacksonville Super Bowl.

No NFL game I saw this years was as good as the Texas-USC game in the Rose Bowl.

Naw. Carolina would have been great. Miami vs. Tampa Bay would be the worst.

I understand voice boxes were replaces with bag pipes. I'd say it worked.

There was absolutely NOTHING super about Super Bowl XL!. Weak teams, poor mistake ridden play, and bad coaching. horrible officiating. The commercials were mediocre, the half time show sucked and the announcers were not insightful or entertaining. I don;t know how they chose the MVP, there wasn't one. The winning QB had a passer rating of 22. Lastly, the officiating was something you would expect Uday Hussein to have "arranged". I think I will spend next Super Bowl Sunday doing something else.

Report on Fox News Radio just said last night's audience was the largest since 1996.

The ONLY reason why Super Bowl ratings might be up is because all those old-time Steelers fans suddenly wanted to watch the game.

Another possibility is the chance to see any one of the Stones expire on live TV.

What, maineman is wrong again? Big surprise, eh? As a fan of maineman's comic act, I can only hope for more of the same from him next year.
Super Bowl XL attracts lofty TV ratings

The Indianapolis Star
February 7, 2006

The Pittsburgh Steelers' 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl was watched in an average of 45.85 million homes, the second-highest total in television history behind the final episode of "M-A-S-H" in 1983.

(snip)

The estimated average of 90.7 million people -- or the estimated number of viewers throughout -- was the largest Super Bowl audience since the Steelers last played in the title game in 1996, a loss to Dallas that attracted an average of 94.1 million people watching. This year's audience was 5 percent bigger than the 86.1 million people who watched the Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
