A Pre-Super Bowl Cool Commerial ~ Bouncy Balls: The "Colour Like No Other" Sony BRAVIA Commercial

How about a head start on watching a really cool commerical ~ in this amazing "Colour Like No Other" ad, 250,000 'superballs' come flying, in slow motion, over the brow of a typical street in San Francisco, raining down on anything that gets in their way. And it was done without computer graphics.

In an age when CGI is commonplace, this commercial is all the more extraordinary. Every single frame was shot over two days - with the main sequence involving a 23-man camera crew and only one chance to get it right.

An entire block was closed off and special compressed-air cannons shot the balls into the air, while earth moving equipment poured thousands down the street. Not that you'd know it from the finished product, but these balls can do some damage, so all the cars were props and crew members went so far as to having protective shields and crash helmets.

But when you get it right, you get it right. The goal at the beginning was to deliver a "really simple, visual celebration of colour". We think you'll agree the results speak for themselves.

I'm sorry ~ try going directly to this page http://www.bravia-advert.com/index.html and seeing if one of the video options in the lower right will work - it's a really neat commerical

If they hadn't spent all that money on super balls, the disenfranchised of San Francisco could be driving much nicer cars. [ \ sf lib sarcasm ]

That was strange and entertaining all at the same time. Wonder how long it took to clean up all those balls when they finished.

Looks like a nightmare from San Fran's 1967 "Summer of Love."

I saw it--the lower speed option worked well for me. Pretty neat commercial.

Anyone know what that song is? Who sings it?

The song is called 'Heartbeats' and is performed by José González

The commercial showed a frog jumping out of a drainpipe. Don't think San Francisco has frogs.
