Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow have split, the couple announced in a joint statement Friday night.
The seven-time Tour de France champion and the rock star announced their engagement in September. It would have been her first marriage and his second. He has three children from a previous marriage.
"After much thought and consideration we have made a very tough decision to split up. We both have a deep love and respect for each other and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this very difficult time," the statement said.
Flash in the pants, younger man older woman stuff mixed in with celebrity status. Half-life is 6 months.
He abandoned his family previous to her.
It's Hollywood, what did people expect?? Besides, all he gave her was that cheap yellow rubber bracelet.
Gotta say, though, she's parlayed a sexy overbite and a bit of talent into quite a career. But I swear, if I hear "All I Wanna Do (Is Have Some Fun)" one more time, I'm going to go postal. Gawd, I hate that song. I like some of her other stuff, but that particular one's just so overplayed.
No more Lance in her pants for Sheryl. All together now....awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

lollololololololololo
Look, we are talking about two American women. Is there a cultural difference between a woman raised in New York and one in the southwest as it relates to looking someone in the eye. I highly doubt it, shyness notwithstanding. Furthermore, Ms. Crow is used to performing on stage in front of hundreds if not thousands of folks. I know there is a difference (for some) between a performer's public and private persona, but I was referring to a simple interview over something as non threatening as a love of horses which both women obviously did. After all, she was also looking into the camera during this one on one interview. I just kept getting the sense there is something phony about Ms. Crow.
As for your own shyness, I can accept that and I can believe it.
I thought they were even already divorced before he met Crow.
She cannot keep a man.
Yes, I was raised in the southwest. There are incredible cultural differences between people raised in different areas in this country, different ethnicities, different religions.
Wish this had happened a year ago so we didn't have to put up with Crow's constant presence on OLN during Lance's final Tour de France...
That was the only reason she was around probably
Maybe Lance will go back to his wife and kids.
I'm glad ... Lance is a bud to W, and I always wondered if their political views didn't raise conflict. Hated to see him with someone so anti-American. Crow's political and WOT jabs have been despicable, but only the shadow knows the reason for the split.
Yeah, he abandoned them. That is why he is retiring to spend more time with them. I will never understand why people act like he is the scum of hte universe because he got a divorce. It isn't like he is the first person to get a divorce. And as I'm sure there are some divorced Freepers out there who can attest, getting a divorce does not mean you abandon the members of the family.
I am no fan of her politics but I do like her music.
As for two people not being able to work it out but still have feelings of love for each other, I dont know what is so bizarre about that. People can genuinely feel and care for one another but are nonetheless not able to work out a relationship or a marriage for many reasons. Ive been there and done that, more than once in fact, sadly. Sometimes one person is more committed to the relationship than the other or they have different goals or priorities. That doesnt mean they cant still care for one another.
Then again it could all be Hollywood PR BS as to the breakup.
I dont know perhaps Im too sentimental. I was kind of pulling for them.
THAT's an understatement, Meg.
It is a shame he will be remembered in the US for his time with Crow perhaps more than his riding. But he made his bed, as they say....
I heard Lance is writing a memoir of his time with Crow, "It's Not About the Dyke"....
Mebbe she should keep her mouth and her legs closed
You are indeed wise.
BTW, most agree that his first wife left him or at least a mutual separation. She didn't want to live half the year in Europe. (can't say I blame her, but she knew that going in)
Indeed...but at least they can fall back on the "fact" that he cheated on the wife who nursed him through cancer.
No matter how many times they are corrected.
