Police asked for the public's help today to find the young man who stole a gold necklace from a 5-year-old girl sitting in front of a market in Huntington Park.
The robbery -- caught by a store surveillance camera -- occurred about 2:10 p.m. last Thursday in front of the Estrella Meat Market, 2668 Zoe Ave., according to Huntington Park police Lt. John Navarrette. A male got out of a car, walked up to the girl and pulled the necklace from around her neck, Navarrette said.
The suspect ran back into the car, which headed east on Zoe Avenue, then south on Seville Avenue, towards Florence Avenue, Navarrette said.
The girl suffered lacerations to the back of her neck, Navarrette said.
The suspect is described as 17 to 20 years old, with black hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt with the image of an unknown person, black pants and white sneakers, Navarrette said.
The car the suspect was in appears to be a four-door, 1990s Lexus, gold or tan, with a darker shade along the bottom, chrome rims and dark tint on the windows, Navarrette said.

I think y'all are missing the point--the necklace can be replaced. But WHY was this child sitting outside ALONE in NYC while her mother 'shopped' inside?!?!
When I first heard this story, and the word 'snatched', I thought it was the girl being kidnapped--thank God in heaven that she wasn't, and shame on her mother for leaving her outside alone in a city known for it's criminal element.
Hunington Park is definetly a Latino area, it always has been.
Many Mexican Gang bangers in that part of L.A
Yep, that really narrows it down. </eyeroll>
Sorry, I misheard that this happened in NYC, apparently it was in LA. Still, CPS needs to be having a talk with that mother.

Where the hell is your common sense?
I can assure you, sir, the police detectives know damn well the race of this perp. The outrage should be directed at the news media for not reporting the race due to PC cowardice. Unless, You Sir, need to be informed of the exact specifics of an at loose criminal to feed your vigilante fetish.
No rebuttal, huh?
You seem to misunderstand that I would, indeed, want to know the exact specific description of the suspect. I do, indeed, blame the media, not LEO for the PC cowardice when it comes to this kind of reporting.
Think Chief Moose of MD. If he had released the correct description of those two sicko snipers, some of the victims might not have been murdered. I often wonder why nobody ever investigated that case of race filtering more thoroughly. Once again, common sense is right out the window.
