Super Bowl of Caring - SouperBowl.org Charity Outreach
Webcast - http://www.f2a.org 2/1/06 ^ | 02/02/2006 | Blurblogger

Just heard of this -- great, simple idea for a fund-raiser with 100% of the monies going to solid, local charities. The group behind this includes entrepreneur Wayne Huizenga and son Wayne II, known for Waste Management and Blockbuster and AutoNation companies as well as others. They are seeking NFL participation for a SuperBowl spot.

As I understand it, not all the problems with Blockbuster, etc. have happened under Huizenga's control, by the way.

The Youth Group at our Church will be participating in this event Sunday. Last year over $4 million dollars was raised nationally. The nice thing about this is that each organization that participates gets to decide where 100% of what they collect goes. Our Church will keep all monies raised and use it toward food purchases for our Church food pantry where we service over 150 families monthly.

Thanks for the ping my friend. But as a Christian, I can not support any endeavour in which the United Methodist (led the fight to legalize abortion) and PCUSA (A rabid anti-American denomination) are partners.

Both were "Proud Sponsors" of the "March for Womens Lives", a DC demonstration in support of unrestricted abortion rights (abortion of minors without parental notification or consent and partial birth abortion).

I give all my donations to the women's shelters. NOW tells me that the Superbowl is the day of highest violence against women.

S4T, I fully understand your concern. If monies were going to such groups I'd have a concern as well. This particular project keeps control in the hands of the local donors who are the best possible stewards of those resources. The Salvation Army is almost as frugal although their staff are paid, modestly.

In contrast, Red Cross and United Way take a substantial 'management fee' percentage out of contributions and distribute the *remainder* through layers of paid and volunteer bureaucracy--ungh.

Thanks for the info. That does allay my fears. I hesitated to write that critique, but then knew you would take it in the spirit in which it was offered.

Thanks again for the ping and the clarification.

Indeed we must be on guard against those who make a living--or a killing--off the naive and ignorant. Thanks for voicing your concerns.

I was just joking. (Though the NAGS do believe that).

Sounds like a good organization.

The referees could use spend some time praying. They were the real sore spot in the Super Bowl with their oversights: Penalties against the Steelers and penalizing the Seahawks for something that was legal. In essence, the Steelers stole the title with a lot of help from the referees.
