Some people watch the Super Bowl just for the commmercials. Are Stargate fans in for a treat this year! Former Stargate SG-1 leading man Richard Dean Anderson ("Jack O'Neill") is jumpstarting the rest of his career with a new commercial for MasterCard. At the end of December he shot the commercial for their "Priceless" campaign, which is now set to air during Super Bowl XL on Sunday, February 5.
In the ad Anderson slides down a wire, drives a semi truck through a fence, and blows up a building -- then is found in a convenience store purchasing replacements for all the things he used to make his escape "priceless." The actor filmed a 30-second and 60-second version to begin airing in regular rotation March 6.
"While I've had offers to bring the MacGyver character back to life, MasterCard had the sense of humor I felt was needed to bring the character back," Anderson said. "The commercial really speaks to how oftentimes everyday items are truly 'priceless' and can serve as life savers."
The ad will air during the game's fourth quarter. Following the premiere, MasterCard's Priceless.com will offer behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from the filming of the spot.
Read more at RDAnderson.com! MasterCard International has a complete run-down of the commercial, from air freshener to tube socks. Super Bowl XL begins at 6 p.m. Eastern time on ABC.

McGuyver lost its cool after he went to work for The Agency and lost the mullet.
To: Wurlitzer
He got promoted to General and was transferred to the office of Homeworld Security. In real life Anderson wanted to spend more time with his family and new daughter.

Anderson didn't want to spend so much time in Vancouver, away from his family, anymore, so got himself written out of the regular cast. First he was promoted to head of the SGC, and then later replaced Hammond again in his DC job (planetary defense, or something like that) -- either that or he left the service entirely so he could fraternize with Carter.
Frankly, they should have ended SG-1 there. They could have sent Daniel Jackson to Atlantis and saved the Ori plot line for when they got tired of the Wraith.

Yep he used to go out of his way in the TV show to often state how he hated guns.
The show had promise to start with but basically was stupid. It was showing during the El Salvador-Nicaraugua conflicts and the bad guys were always some South American government and the good guys some rebel peasants who somehow reminded one of the Communists.
I eventually got to where I coundn't stand it.

I saw a blooper scene where Anderson and Amanda Tapping (Colonel Carter on Stargate) were filming a scene where they were stuck in a cave underneath Antarctica. Tapping starts ad-libbing and says: "I'm stuck...on a glacier...with MacGuyver!"

In the pilot episode for SG-1, Carter makes a single mention that they had to "MacGuyver" a solution to get the gate operational. Anderson/O'Neill gives her a look, and that's the last they ever make mention of it.

I think he said something about MacGyver:

"Ah, let no opinion which differs from yours go unchallenged!"
Um... FR is a political forum. What better place to challenge someone's opinions?

I'm not sure about Amanda Tapping's martial status.
But as a dedicated Sam/Jack shipper, I think the characters of Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter should be married...

Naa they can take the wraith for another four seasons (especially now that they have made them somewhat feudal while fighting for resources). By that time Atlantis will be in 6 and it will be time for the StarGate series to end for a while..

1. Apologies for snarking on you, my caffeine levels were not up to the minimum daily requirement.
2. Yes, this is a political discussion group. But, I get so tired of people discounting other people's value based on whether they "think like us". People should not be judged solely on their political bent (politicians excepted, of course!). It's so dismissive! "I'm not going to see [insert movie name here] because the director/star/guy who gets the donuts is a lib. They could not possibly have anything to say that I would want to hear."
It's like a special form of censorship. And we're not big on that, are we?

"Where did you start:" Got interested in the program after the "Enterprise" was put in moth balls (for the last time???) so I missed a bunch.
I have Dish and pick up the reruns @6:00 each evening. I need an hour a day of brain candy and SG1 fills the bill.

"You spent 7 years on McGyver and you can't figure this one out? We got belt buckles, and shoe laces, and a piece of gum, build a nuclear reactor for crying out loud! You used to be McGyver, McGadget, McGimic...now your Mr. McUseless!
Dear God!! I'm stuck on a glacier with MCGYVER!!!!"
