I took my cockers to the neighborhood dog park this weekend and some guy was there with his female pit bull. My friendly little female got along with everyone else there, sniffing and wagging but the minute the pit bull came anywhere near her, she absolutely froze. She didn't move, wag and hardly seemed to be breathing. It spooked the heck out of me and I took her out of there after only a few minutes.
I swear that pb whispered to her "Make one false move & I'll tear your throat out."

It was more likely that you transmitted your own fear of the pit bull into your dog.
