FNC Reporter Megan Kendall: "Justice Stevens wants to retire under a Republican President."
January 31, 2006

Posted on 01/31/2006 12:05:42 PM PST by new yorker 77

After the confirmation of Samuel Alito, I heard Fox New Channel's Reporter Megan Kendall when asked who might be next to retire from the bench said, "Justice Stevens has stated in the past that he was confirmed under a Republican President wants to retire under a Republican President."

I know who would be the ideal candiadte, even ultimate candidate, to succeed John Paul Stevens: former U.S. Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Policy Viet Dinh.

I like it he could last on the court for atleast 40 years, he's a youngin.

A 38 year old, Vietnamese born, chief author of the USA Patriot Act.

Are you trying to give Ted Kennedy a heart attack?

I doubt the accuracy of this report however. I have heard reports over the years that Stevens wants input on who his successor is, and Clinton couldn't find anyone good enough.

It's important to remember that Stevens turns 86 this year and his advancing age may make him less particular on that front.

When she sticks to the facts she is fine. But her interpretations and predictions are much less interesting. I like her really though much better than most reporters.

Thanks. There is a Megyn Kendall rule; she's a lot cuter than Ann Coulter.

So... why would he want to retire under a Republican president? Guilt? Seriously.

At least before he was a judge, he was registered Republican (I don't know if he still is, or if that information is available). He was appointed to both of his judicial positions by Republicans-- Nixon appointed him to the 7th Circuit, where he was a moderate-to-conservative judge with slightly libertarian leanings, and Ford appointed him to the Supreme Court, where he started out as a moderate and has steadily moved left. For all I know, he may still consider himself a Republican. There did used to be a liberal wing to the Republican Party, you know.

I sure would be fun to find out who these folks voted for in different presidential elections, wouldn't it?

Stevens: Go NOW....we have the Senate NOW. Don't wait.

If you posted links in the post above, I can't see them, and they don't appear when I view the source code.

It's probably on my end. Apparently I have at least one popup blocker that blocks me from even seeing links that contain a trigger word. I discovered this a couple of days ago, and I haven't diagnosed the exact cause yet.
